For the last couple of weeks I've been in Vancouver taking care of my aunt's dog while she's on vacation. They're coming back tomorrow (or at least, I hope so) so my duties are just about completed.
Now, when I take him for walks I have to keep an eye on him, because he has a tendency to jump on animals that are smaller than him, such as raccoons and squirrels. Luckily, we managed to make it through two weeks without any incidents, so things were looking up. That is, until today, when he decided to jump on a skunk. Surprise, surprise, he got sprayed, and is currently stinking up the house. Goddammit.
Anyway, in order to tie the above story to the topic of this thread, have you ever been [small]this close[/small] to success, only to have it snatched away from you in a cruel twist of fate?
