Recently i started playing Dungeons and Dragons and i must say it be awesome. I just recently bought the DM guide and i am thinking of introducing my friends who love this kind of; imagine and improvise through dire situation stuff.

I play a Dragonborn Bravura Warlord at level 7, and worship the Raven Queen.

So do you play? When did you start playing then? What do you play? What deity did you choose? Etc etc.

Edit: my bad, i play 4th edition, and at the moment we jump between Eberron and Forgotten realms. But post whatever even if you used to play way back in 2nd edition or whatever.

What edition are you playing? Be specific.

OT: My friends and I used to play 3.5. I really should get that group back together. I liked the Eberron setting.

I miss D&D. I had an 8th level halfling rogue who slept in the boot of our half-orc and stole anything that wasn't nailed down (and sometimes things that were) in 3.5.

In 4.0 I had a 3rd level half-elf warlord who was useless in actual battle but made a great healer and often got the morale of our little troop up enough to win.

yeah that the only problem i've found with mine is that although i did build him correctly he sometimes has to fall back as support rather then being the CHARGE! type which is what he was made to do. But that said i can't complain, our DM is an inventive bastard who likes to throws us into bullshit situations to see if we can fight our way free.

4.0? You mean World of Warcraft on paper. I will play 2.5 - 3.5 but never that.

our DM is old school and dug up some online resources to hybridise both, so technically where playing some bastard offspring of both, but all my handbooks glaring shout "4.0 the new and improved edition!".

I however agree with you, having looked at the differences in both i would prefer to play 3.5 but everyone else just shrugs and goes 'whatever its only a number'

I miss D&D and pen and paer RPGs in general. Planning on trying to bring a group together over the summer for a run at the Ptolus campaign for 3.5. Hopefully that won't fall through...

He said Bravura Warlord, that'd be 4th edition.

A Bravura warlord does that. You charge in, set up some things like combat advantage for your allies, shift some allies into better positions, then takes up a support role, though you should still be able to do so from the front lines. Bravura warlords work best with rogues, naturally, because you can let your allies attack on your turn, which means more sneak attacking for a well placed rogue, but you must be careful (and have potions handy!) because you bring a lot of damage onto yourself running around and goading enemies to attack you.

Other builds will be less combat oriented, or at least less deathwish oriented.

Also, whether or not you can keep up the "CHARGE" mentality is the group's make up. Is there another Leader of some kind? Do you have a Defender or two to absorb blows without getting torn to shreds? Could your squishier teammates spend a feat to perhaps move up an armor type?

If you have the cash to spare, investing in the new Player's Strategy Guide may be a good idea. There's nothing super earth shattering in there to veteran players, but for a newbie, it'll point out lots of neat things you may have overlooked in the creation of your character, as well as lots of tips and tricks for roleplaying.

Personally I've played every edition of D&D at least once, but I prefer 4th edition to any others by a long shot. I also have played lots of other, non-D&D RPGs. And I agree, D&D is awesome, as is roleplaying in general. Welcome to the fold, so to speak :) If ya need anything, just ask.

Me and my friends are playing 3.5. It's nothing too serious at the moment though. I was going to DM, but I couldn't get a story worked out, so I passed it off to my friend, and he's running a kind of "Mythological crossover" type thing.

[small]Also it has Kratos..[/small]

But yeah, currently, our party consists of a repeat sex-offender Necromancer, an overly serious half-elf ranger who doesn't like to be the leade of our group (But is anyways), a talking cabbage, and Bruce.

Personally, I love the idea of Role-Playing but I've never been able to get a DnD group together mostly because none of my friends are interested.

We roll with a half-elf rouge, a elf paladin (leader), revenant barbarian and human cleric.
So yeah i essentially charge in to set up the barb for all his death dealing glory while the rouge and our fearless leader kite the enemies around the edges in order to keep them compact.
edit; the cleric just sits there and flings healing spells and the occasional mace to the face.

So while an integral member of the party no i'm not the leader and i'm glad not to be, ours keeps getting blamed for all of the parties screw ups. we walk down the stairs instead of leaping across a bridge (which only three members can pull of with an easy athletics check), then it turns out that there's mega enemies down the stairs and its somehow the leaders fault. (we vote on where we should go rather then take orders).

And thanks i'll look into the strategy guide. on a side note have you played GURPS?

Ah, D&D... my old friend. Or Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, as it was called back when in my hayday. I used to run a group with my friends in middle school, I was the most creative one so I got stuck being the DM :p I had quite a bit of fun though, both with and ON my players :) Though I'll admit I stole some good ideas for campaigns I read off the interwebs (like killing off all of the player characters in the first hour, walk out of the room for about 5 minutes to let 'em simmer, then kick off their dead characters quest back to the world of the living. Great campaign).

Then I got playing on an online group in high school, I had a 17th level Half Elf rogue, who had a thing for dwarven/halfling women that got him in quite a lot of trouble. Oh yeah, and I also killed the Tarrasque. Good times.

Wish I had people to play with now but.. I think I'd just feel a bit silly.

Typically play 3e/3.5. Of the older editions I particularly favored Planescape and Spelljammer campaigns. Don't much care for 4. Too combat orientated for my tastes.

Me and my friends kind of play, on and off. We never get more than one furking awesome night in though, it's just difficult to get everyone back together. It's fantastic because none of us take it seriously enough to become hardcore nerds, not even the DM. We have scenarios where our dwarf's armor makes techno noises as it moves and one of us throws a singer and blows up the bar we happen to be in.

Generally, though, I'm a fighter. I like being a fighter, nothing more complicated than "Go here and kill this". I can focus more on the dialogue, which is always fun.

My first character was a 3.5 Neutral Evil Dwarf Druid worshipping Nerull, the god of death. I would set up traps of webs in alley ways and capture victims, then take them to a tree stump outside of town and sacrifice them to my god. I would also level whole cities if they defiled nature in any way. His name was Abhorrin Grottog, and his snake was named Veshnish.

Right now I'm playing a 3.5 Chaotic Neutral Rogue/Fighter/Ranger/Master of Masks lvl 13 named Lord Gilbert Raphaello Westerfall III (fake name) who loves to steal and cause general chaos with disguises, forgeries, and lies.

I also play a beguiler in a new 3.5 game. I don't have him quite fleshed out yet.
