According to PCGamer [http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/06/25/deadpool-game-release/], High Moon's Deadpool game launches tomorrow. There's a new trailer with (what I assume) some gameplay)

Note: If you have a hatred for the words "Guess" "Assume" and "Think", don't look here.
This is supposed to be ironic I guess.
Now I'm assuming that most of the humor in this game will be parodies(Or worse, references) of other games and trailers and whatnot. I also noticed Wolverine being jabbed at a lot. But screw that, let's talk gameplay. It's going to be a third person over the shoulder shooter(like the transformer's game), with some levels breaking the pattern(The "Ooh I love 8 bit levels" looks like it's going to be a 2d sidescrolling level). Aaand that's about all I can guess assume and think.

Thoughts?

Again, this game is releasing tomorrow. I have no clue why they withheld so much information until now.

I've seen this pattern before. We tend to get little to no information about a game when the publishers want to hide how mediocore a game is and still get money from pre-orders. (please let me be wrong)

Despite that, the game still looks pretty fun.

'Cause he really, really is. I really don't think I could stomach a whole game of that crap.

Yeah that's Deadpool all right, he has no fourth wall so is always totally aware of what medium he's in of course to characters in the marvel universe this makes him look coo coo for coco puffs, though sometimes he really does hallucinate.
The knocks at wolverine he tends to do in universe as well.

he also has an unhealthy obsession with bea arthur

it's all part of his charm and I can't wait for the game personally.

I usually like what I see of Deadpool but that was fucking painful. Looks like videogame writers still can't do humour.

Except for the fact the game was written by Daniel way, a former Deadpool writer not a "Video game writer".

can't speak for the trailer itself.

...Well. That's something. Did something happen or was he always this bad?

It's probably more to do with the change of medium. A lot of Deadpools appeal comes from how he completely ignores the 4th wall and is totally aware of the medium he is in. This requires a degree of experience and understanding to pull off. Such knowledge isn't exactly transferable over other mediums.

So yeah, my guess is his skills as a comic book writer doesn't translate to Games too well.

EDIT: Alternatively, things like Pacing, Comical Timing, framing and so on... all of these things require a different skill set in comics over other mediums (heck, each medium has their own knacks). Lacking these, the best writing falls apart.

Nothing new here then, this industry is chock-a-block with conflicting elements. Writing grinding up against gameplay, narrative themes grinding up against core mechanics... we all know the drill.

Its really sad to see deadpool like this...
Being a longtime deadpool fan and all, remembering when he still had characther and all
and wasn't just a walking joke.

No, its just that Daniel Way isnt a very good writer at all.
He is pretty much responsible for the "Deadpool" we now as today.

I love everything about what I've seen, but I'm waiting on reviews. High Moon know what they're doing but length isn't their strong point. I hope it's longer than 5 hours this time.

I never followed Deadpool too closely, my experience with him is through friends who were fans. So I'm not sure of the distinction between "classic" deadpool and modern deadpool. What did he do differently?

That seems harsh... Imo, he's the second best Deadpool writer.

Hmm, I had almost forgotten about this game. I only remembered it recently when I went into a Gamestop and saw a poster for it.

Honestly... I thought that trailer was freaking funny as hell. It actually looks like a better Duke Nukem Forever than the REAL Duke Nukem Forever was.

I'd actually consider buying it, but I'm broke as hell right now.

I don't think you appreciate how angry it would make some people to hear you call Deadpool a "second rate spiderman", seriously I have a friend who would slap you for saying that.
OT: I think the game looks kind of meh, kind of like DNF except not as crap, my hypothesis seems to be supported by meta-critic where it's getting good and bad reviews.

Actually, he has very little in common with Spider-Man besides the eye bit of the costume. And the red. But he was never intended to be a rip off of him. He's actually a rip off of Slade Wilson/Deathstroke.

But he's not for everybody and you don't strike me as a happy person who likes slap stick...

I'm not a huge huge comic person, but I think he's anywhere near that obnoxious in other media.
A smart ass yes, but an outright jackass, spewing banal garbage trying so hard to be funny?

Pretty sure comic Deadpool could be twice as effective with half the dialogue the video game version has.
And I could be very wrong.

Also Nolan North.

UGH.

the trailer looks funny. It made me laugh. I'll just wait for some gameplay reviews though before deciding to get it thou. Never forget the debacle of Aliens colonial marines.

"Clears Throat" Now this is just my own personal interpretation but waaay back in the 90´s when deadpool had is first ongoing written by Joe Kelly he was a more wellrounded characther with motivations and flaws, the whole shebang.
The old deadpool was the embodiment of the sad clown trope in the marvel universe. The outsider among the outsiders.

While their was still alot of popculture references, they was usually handled alot better by more competent writers, sneaking in clever quips and homages to those who payed attention
It was always kept kind of ambigious whether dp really was insane of if it was his coping mechanism to handle all he crap he had been through.

The new Deadpool written by Daniel Way is a walking meme machine.
He is behind the 2 voices in his head (with no explanation whatsoever besides DEADPOLSCRAZYLOL)
Also the "Pool O vision" which is as stupid as it sounds.

It irritates my inner nerd that it is this version that became so popular.
So whenever i say i'm a deadpool fan it pretty much makes me look like a fan of poopoo jokes and cat memes.
And if i say i liked dp before he was popular i sound like a massive hipster.

OT:Still probably gonna pickup the game once it goes cheap, the trailer smells bargain bin.

The actual game looks like a lot of fun, quite similar to Matt Hazard; I'm actually surprised they got away with making a game this weird for the mainstream market.

On the downside, the writing sounds fucking atrocious, a lot of the Deadpool charm seems to have been replaced with weak and predictable gags (the dubstep thing was kind of funny when Borderlands 2 did it, now it's just played out).

Still, looks like it'll be worth a playthrough, I'll wait to see how it reviews.

I don't know anything about Deadpool's comic persona or his comics in general, so speaking as a non-comic fan I think this looks hysterical. I've seen some videos of random scenes that are in the game and they had me laughing. Yeah the gameplay doesn't look too impressive, but I'm willing to bet that in this instance, gameplay is not the primary reason fans are gonna get this game.
