So EA charges nearly 2-4 times the price for their own games on Origin.

So I was curious...how do EA game prices compare between steam and Origin, lets have a look shall we?

Mass Effect 1 - Steam $20 - Origin $80
Mass Effect 2 - Steam $20 - Origin $80
Dragon Age Origins - Steam $20 - Origin $40
BattleField: Bad Company 2 - Steam $20 - Origin $40
Sims 3 - Steam $80 - Origin $80
Shift 2 Unleashed - Steam $80 - Origin $90
Dead Space 2 - Steam $70 - Origin $90

REALLY? I didnt even pick this list out. I literally went to Steams advanced serach and searched for publisher EA and checked the games at the top of the list. EVERY game is either more expensive or the same price.

Absolutely pathetic, and people wonder why Steam does so well. On their own service, games that THEY published, are more expensive than on a COMPETING service.

EDIT: OH wait..I get it, they are selling their games are brick and mortar retail prices. Ignoring the fact that they -arent a physical retailer-

Do you know what the most fucked up part of that is? They must actually be making sales to keep it that high.

I think they figure that if someone is willing do download Origin in the first place they are also likely to be willing to pay hilarious amounts of money for games.

I'm a bit puzzled as to how you're getting those prices.

I'm in Australia, land of shitty pricing, and I get:

Mass Effect 1 - Steam $20 - Origin $20
Mass Effect 2 - Steam $20 ($40 for digital deluxe) - Origin $20 for digital deluxe edition
Dragon Age Origins - Steam $20 - Origin $20 (both as the standard game, no DLC)
BattleField: Bad Company 2 - Steam $20 - Origin $20
Sims 3 - Steam $80 - Origin $80
Shift 2 Unleashed - Steam $80 - Origin $40
Dead Space 2 - Steam $70 - Origin $40

Bolded those cheaper on Origin. None of those games were priced higher on Origin.

I love that several people were completely convinced that that was happening before anyone actually checked it out.

Wooow...Well Im New Zealand haha. So wait..why are my prices for Steam the same as yours, but different for Origin? I would of thought they would keep fairly consitent prices across different regions..hmm..I wonder how many other places have it more expensive and some have it cheaper?

I?m in NZ as well, just checked the origins site and I?m getting the same as the OP. Those prices are ridicules. $80 for ME1? you got to be kidding me. That is even more than it cost retail.

Hold on..... 80$ for Mass effect 1 and 80$ for mass effect 2...

What the fu** is this pricing??? i paid 45$ for me2 a loooong while ago and i bought me1 for 20$

Was Mass effect 2 even 80$ at launch ???

Edit: it depends on country i guess, i see ME2 @ 20$ on origin and NFS 2 unleashed at 20$ too, not the ridiculous 90$ you guys see... i guess it sucks to be a EA fan in NZ :p

Meh steam is overpriced and so is Origin.

Steam versus Store price.
Example: Mass effect 1 [15?] in store: 49kr[5?]
Mass effect 2 [20?, 30? for deluxe] in store: 79kr [8?], 300kr[30?] for deluxe since only digital exist..
Darkness 2 [50?] in store: 330kr[33?]'
Kingdoms of amalur [50?] in store: 365kr[36,5?]
Mw3 [60?] in store: 269kr[27?]

And the lists goes on

The only thing I like about origin is that the prices are in Swedish kr and not in euro. And whenever I have contacted their support Ive gotten a 15% reduced price on my next game purchase

Yeah, for some reason digital distribution is a lot more expensive than retail in europe, and not just Origin (Steam is often worse, indie games excepted). It's 50? (~63$) for most new games on almost all DD platforms, but retail often sells the same games for 45?. The cheapest way is to import from the UK, which most of the time amounts to ~40? (shipping costs included).

For me the prices are not even close the those. Calm your EA rage you hilarious children. And you non-us gamers should be used to being boned by game prices

Why would prices be higher on a digital distribution platform? all i can think of is that its harder to send stuff there due to the remote location even digitally but that doesnt seem like it would cause such a raise in price or even be a reason. Maybe they just think new zealanders will pay. You should have mentioned you were from new zealand though cause you had people thinking this was in america and revealing they are just jumping on a band wagon of hate for origin. Also does anyone know what the conversion from new zealand dollars to american dollars or british sterling is.

What kind of a statement is that? even if they are used to unfair pricing that doesnt make it right in any way. If this was the case for you then you would be equally pissed.
