Started listening to Las Teclas de Negro( The Black Keys is their name but I just watched Howlin' for You's video) after I heard them on TV. I now have their whole discography.

Sad to say, I found a lot of the music I like from a wrestling game my friend use to play all the time.

I have three, can't choose just one. The three are: The Gaslight Anthem, Gallows, Every Time I Die
I discovered Gaslight when The '59 Sound came out and they featured on the cover of Kerrang! which was the only time I managed to persuade myself to buy that god-awful magazine since I was about 14
I discovered Gallows when they came up on a suggested video list on YouTube. Not sure what I was watching at the time... probably Rancid
And I discovered ETID through a friend who has gotten me into a lot of great music and vice versa. I really owe him big time for ETID. Although, I did get him into Periphery

My father showed me almost every single band I like, there's a few bands that we don't both like but overall my father's taste in music is pretty much identical to my own. It wasn't always this way, in fact I used to dislike everything my Dad liked simply because it was "Old People Music". :p

I remember playing with my action figures one day. My brother turned on MTV, and in his room, I heard the glorious opening of Pretty Fly or White Guy. My brother was kind enough to give me the CD. Addicted ever since.

A friend of mine dumped all the music he had in his laptop into my ipod video when I bough it, amongst all the music/porn, was a band called Dream Theater, specifically the album Train of Tought. After the first song I had to listen to the rest of the album and proceeded to listen to all the albums he put into my ipod. I even have the band's logo tatted on my right deltoid.

From a CD with heaps of .mp3s on it that I got off one of my mates. It had 3 songs from the album Powerslave, and I was instantly a huge Maiden Fan.

Guitar Hero 2 for me. I didn't like metal whatsoever when I started learning to rock the plastic guitar, and then I listened to "Six" by All That Remains. It was a pain in my ass to beat and I just learned to appreciate it. After a few weeks that appreciation became love and the rest, as they say, is history.

Yeah. All That Remains rocks hard. Fact.

I was introduced to Aphex Twin through Stepmania.
Got curious about Brian Eno because of his influence on electronic music.
Looked into Squarepusher because of his relationship with Aphex Twin and µ-Ziq.
Mother was a big David Bowie fan.
Samurai Champloo got me into Nujabes, which in turn got me interested in more hip-hop such as Del, OutKast, Kanye, DJ Shadow, and Flying Lotus.
/mu/ exposed me to Animal Collective. King Crimson, and The Mars Volta, and convinced me to give Number Girl a second chance.
I heard about Mass of the Fermenting Dregs from a guild on Gaia Online.

I discovered Nirvana long before I decided they were my favorite band.

It all started when I a friend who worshiped them, and he told me how great they were, and how Kurt Cobain was a god. Then, I heard Rape Me, and I thought it was pretty good, but nothing to go crazy over. But then I heard In Bloom.

It blew me away

Started dabbling in music in my teens, and a friend from school came along with the "Facelift"-album by Alice in Chains, simply stating that I would probably like it.

He was absolutely right.

Other than that, all the music I still listen to was discovered through friends, browsing the recordstores and listening to different types of band, jamming in the rehearsalroom and someone saying "that sounds a bit like (insert band here)" and of course I had to check it out.

That introduced me to Clutch. Another reason to love Valve. Clutch is pretty much the best band ever.
This got me into Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, also pretty damn good, despite my having no interest in the game whatsoever. I seem to have excellent luck with trailer music.

Flicking through the music channels, and a video called "Dance, Dance" comes on, I become intrigued.
Now being in a what seems to be quite metal music orientated forum, I'll be putting my flame shields right up.

A friend of mine listens to a lot of Springsteen. He told me I should too, "you'll like him".

Been hooked on the Boss ever since.
