Then again, I seem to recall he had a bit of a fixation on forcing memes for some reason. I suppose nobody ever explained how it works to him.
Wait, you mean to tell me that whole "Big lipped alligator moment" and the "I was frozen today," he was really trying to make those into memes? I thought he was just using them as a shtick in his reviews. Mildly amusing shticks, but nothing meme worth.

I thought it was a joke at first. Now I just wish it was.

Doug's a nice guy, but he's always had a serious problem with trying to force memes.
Like much of the internet, really.

He did this before with trying to make "I was frozen today" and the evil popcorn eating guy into memes, and it doesn't work at all because it's not funny to begin with
Hey, "I was frozen today!" is awesome.

Hey now, let's not say anything we can't take back. Sure, you might not like the new NC format, but in my opinion "really terrible" are words that one only uses about a parody novel by Adam Roberts or the South Park episode A Million Little Fibers.
This is the internet. "Worst (X) ever" means "I find this slightly less good than last week." Calling something terrible is pretty much saying "not lol funny" in real people speak. :p

Kind of like how "fuck you, ******" is the equivalent of "I disagree, good sir or madam."

There are too many contributors overlapping their areas, too many "people reviewing stuff" instead of being "characters", and too many contributors that are either absent 90% of the time or suck.
And the absence part is the one that gets to me. Aside from Linkara and Nash, most of the people I most like to watch on the site just aren't updating that often. Doug still updates regularly, but he hasn't been the main reason I came to the site in ages. TGWTG is usually the first video site I check out in my routine, which I used to do because it had the most content I'd watch. Now it's just habit, and I'm lucky if there's one video I give a damn about.

This has nothing to do with eStunts particularly, but I think they are part of a general trend of "meh."

I'm surprised that many people think eSluts would be something that was TRYING to be a thing. I think that's pretty much a thing as far back as there is eAnything. Like, I'd think you could figure that out by context alone.

Considering how people already like to link up movie and tv clips to use as retorts, these eSults just come off as completely unnecessary. I dunno if I'd say TGWTG is scraping the bottom of the barrel, but Doug and Co. are reaching here.
Even funnier since it's so hard to find clips of CA guys saying organically funny things. Like, that's not bashing them. It's just any moment I look for either has like five minutes of padding on it or it doesn't exist.

What an amazing demonstration of why this doesn't work. I'm not going to click and watch that because I know that it only exists to insult me (or anyone the poster considers a whiner). What motivation would I have to open a video like that? And what motivation would a bystander have to open it when they see the title for it and instantly know what the poster wants to convey? It misses the entire point of forum weaponry.
And you just summed up exactly why I didn't click it, though I didn't even think about it until I read your post. Excellent work.

First I thought it was eSluts... Then I realized it was related to the Nostalgia Critic... Then I understood what it was about.

Well, he may not use the cut away gag as much as Family Guy, but he can make them drag on FAR too long. Examples: Pearl Harbour, Cat in the Hat, Son of the Mask. The cut away gags were just too long, if they had been a quick tie in observation joke then they would have worked better (see Maven of the Eventide and some of her cut away gags, she does those well).

That's just me though, I'm sure he's a good guy and all that, but it's just no longer that funny when he stops talking about a film to do a 5 minute skit that loosely ties into the review (I especially dislike when he does that to then segway into the advertisements).

Edit: Sorry Badger, mixed up your name with Zachary's.

Yeah, when I first saw it on TGWTG, I thought it said eSluts as well. Sadly, it's not.

Walker got in real deep with Demo Reel (from what I've heard, he spent upwards of $250,000 USD on it) and it tanked bad. He's gotta recoup, so he brings back Nostalgia Critic. Except that's not doing so good now either, since viewers either stopped watching because they were tired/sick/etc. of his shtick and/or they hate the new long, dragged out skits in the reviews that feature the talentless smucks that were in Demo Reel. So he's gotta do something to make his scratch back. Hey, people make money off YouTube, and people use clips from him as forum weapons, why not do it himself? Brilliant, except he makes new unfunny ones that are too long to use as forum weapons that feature the talentless smucks from Demo Reel that try really really hard to be funny, and LIKE ME PLEASE!! So, not brilliant.

Which is sad. I used to really enjoy his videos, but then he got really full of himself.

Doug never learned not to feed the trolls

He thinks that everyone who disagrees with him is a whiny loser.

Nah, it doesn't make you horrible. Hell, I still think he's funny from time to time... granted he isn't spending more than half the review going on how he hates TMZ. >:|

I'll admit this is why I clicked on the thread. eSluts sounds so much more exciting.

Well, on subject, I hate them. I hate the usual 'forum weapon' videos that people post too. Firstly, who the hell actually watches them? 'Oh yes, this guy has just had a go at me, let's see this snarky assholish clip he's just posted towards me!'. They're only logical for fucking masochists.

Not only does it mean that you're being unimaginative and not thinking up something yourself (or even just rephrasing it) but it also comes off as terribly pretentious and condescending. When people just use these videos, they deprive themselves of coming across as interesting and having their own style.

I know what I said before, but after watching this: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/nostalgia-critic/39374-nostalgia-critic-ai

Yep...it's just as bad as Family Guy now (in terms of unnecessary cut away gags).

Honestly, while I agree that episode is needlessly bad and similar to Family Guy, I don't think it's the cutaway "jokes" that do it. It's the "explaining the joke to death" thing.

I mean, the most subtle it gets is shit like the "TMZ" crew clapping like seals.

I agree, but I still think the cut aways are bad, especially in his latest one. They just have no context and stretch out WAY too long and tries way too hard. Looking back at reviews such as the "A Simple Wish" review just makes me ask, "How did you get so bad in such a relatively short time?".

For context, he did one cutaway gag that involved the actress of the film and was done really well.
