I remember glancing it during the last sale and notice its back and even on the number 2 spot for total sales on steam right now. I'm seriously debating over buying it or not. It looks fun, but I'm usually pretty intimidated by overly competitive games but the action looks pretty quick and fun and balanced and I dig the medieval setting as opposed to some unbalanced military shooter where you fight people 50 levels above you with no hope. So hows the gameplay? the community? how do you like it?

Its great fun. The game is well balanced so you won't be constantly killed by people of a higher level or anything like that. Basically how well you do at the game is based entirely on your skill and how well you can adapt to the mechanics of the game. The community seems friendly as well, haven't had any issues there. Overall it's just really good fun.

The melee gameplay is great--imagine a far smoother Skyrim, with the ability to attack horizontally, vertically, and stab. The archery isn't particularly bad, but it isn't great; they improved it by giving you a decent crosshair. The blocking can be a tad wonky at times, and takes a while to get used to. You just have to remember that you need to aim at their weapon to get a good block. The community is alright, although given that every mode allows teammates to injure each other, you do get the occasional asshole/idiot who doesn't know that you use the stab/vertical swing and not the horizontal swing when teammates are standing right next to them. You can kick. I don't know if they've changed it since I was last on, but finding a server that has an accurate player count can be tricky; the official servers almost always misrepresent how many people are actually in the server. Overall, it's a great game that you could easily sink hundreds of hours into--definitely worth the full price, and even better now that it's half off.

I liked it at first- it was basically mount and blade warband but with worse 3rd person and better 1st person play (and no horses to ride on), but over a few matches it just became a really frustrating pattern of running and dying, with the game throwing all kinds of sound vomit at you from all directions, much like Bad Company 2.

Then I stopped playing as the Man-At Arms, and it got noticably better. I'd still recommend Warband over it though. Those 200 player siege servers have to be seen to be believed.
