Tell them to put their man pants on, their friend is in the hospital with no legs, and he still has more balls then they do. Then gripe that their massive vaginas are hanging out, etc, so that you can get together and go cheer the man up. Dude got run over by a car, for goodness sake. Then can suffer some humor that they're enacting so that he can be a bit less pissed at his situation (because I can guarantee you that he's pissed that he can't move on his own).

Bored and angry is what my friend turned to when he broke one of his legs and fractured his pelvis. There was a bit of depression, but mostly it was him complaining about how his ass hurt from laying on it all day. Oh, and get him like a Calvin and Hobbes comic, if he's into that kind of thing.

Depends who it is. For some friends I would say "Well on the plus side, for me that is, I'm finally better at rugby than you are."

Terrible situations and me do not get on. I laugh at funerals. It's a curse. I'm what's known to doctors (and everyone else) as a dickhead.

I never knew anyone who was that severely injured (or sick) to have that kind of situation.
but similarly, I had a friend who was going through his break up pretty hard. Didn't know what to say until I saw some ad whilst driving.

I told him these almost exact words

I don't know what the hell drove me to say that, but it cheered him up and that should be considered as fission mucking accomplished.
