So I Finally Bought Borderlands

There's a line in there that made me cry...

Morbid foreshadowing.

I'm enjoying the second more than the first with 2 exceptions. First, I really miss being able to zoom across the battlefield with Lilith's power(though overall running speed seems to have been improved in the sequel making this less noticeable), and second, for whatever reason, I enjoyed the feel of the weapons from the first game.

I can't really explain the second one, the guns in the second game just don't feel as good to me.

I liked the first one a lot more than BL2. The DLC is dissapointing so far.

Did you try killing Rakk swarms with a shotty? It usually exploderises them

If you're going solo in BL1 I recomend the Soldier Class cos the turret is essentially another team mate, only reason I was able to solo it.

It's another story with BL2 though. Co-op is pretty much forced. And the word "badass" is literally said every 5 seconds.

Best post I've seen all day. Borderlands 2 is more of the same, although Gearbox did improve a lot of things. It was also a significantly better PC port than the original at launch.

To anyone new to the series, I'd recommend just skipping the first game completely.

BL2 is so much better in every way. I couldn't play BL1 for more than a few hours before being fairly bored. Still playing BL2.

I found the sniping to be far less frustrating in BL2 than BL1, which it sounds like you'll appreciate. They also polished up the UI, to make inventory management better. I also like the way they strengthened the brand identities of the various gun companies in BL2. In the first game, I rarely paid attention to what company made what gun, but in the second, it becomes essential, because they have very different design philosophies.

Both great games though, and it's good to play both.

Oh, and if you thought skags were bad, you're going to LOVE BL2's Stalkers. >

I am glad to hear that the sniping is less frustrating, and I sincerely hope it's true. If there's one serious criticism I'd level at this game, it's that I don't like the way the rpg elements affect gunplay. This is mostly personal preference of course, but when I have a sniper rifle I want to snipe with it, from a good distance away, without constantly missing a target that's right in my crosshairs. It didn't help when I fought the enemies in Old Haven and almost every other shot came up with a big fat zero damage. I understand they have armor and all that but it's so damn frustrating. I also have a hard time with the directional damage indications which only end up confusing me, and I'd really appreciate the quest markers being a little less vague.

When a game keeps me up till 7 or 8 am, though, I can't exactly hold any of that against it.

When I did my solo run with Mordy, I had an easy time with it. Mainly because I focused on pistols and actually finding/buying good pistols and revolvers. It can be done, with any setup as far as gear and skill trees go, but I found pistols to be the easiest for me when going with Mordecai.

I'll have to try that sometime. I used sniping rifles as my primary weapon and revolvers secondary.

When you get Mordecai decked in the pistol tree with a 'Masher' type revolver, he becomes Death incarnate when enemies try to close the distance.

Stalkers = "Invisible Assholes". You'll hate them, I can guarantee it But they only exist in short little sections so it's all cool.

The sniper handling was certainly a little bit odd in the original. I don't think it was entirely to do with the RPG elements though. I remember hearing they took a few shortcuts in the physics engine, which is why snipers in particular can hit when they look like they shouldn't have and vice versa. The rocket launchers were pretty hidious for the same reason. Get this; launchers are actually worth using now!

That aside, so far as I can tell, all the snipers are 100% accurate now, with the listed accuracy stat probably refering to sway and recoil (or maybe it's just the hip accuracy? No idea). In any case, I've never noticed any RNG at play, and I usually go for less accurate snipers like the Vladofs. In general though, I feel like there's a bit more RNG in most of the weapons. What's listed as 90% accuracy in an SMG has a reticle about the size of a 60% in the original. The weapons are a lot less accurate across the board, other than the aforementioned snipers, and many of them are completely unusable without iron sights. Assault rifles seem to suffer a lot from it (really nasty recoil when hip-firing), and unless you can find a decent one with a scope (which seems rarer than it should be), you'll find yourself crying out for a good midrange workhorse weapon through much of the game. That was my experience anyway.

If you're playing as Mordecai and are having trouble against non-humans, especially rakks.

Make friends with repeaters, and maybe an SMG if you feel the need.

Revolvers and snipers really aren't the best things for swarms. But get yourself a nice flaming or corrosive repeater. And just watch all those pesky insects literally melt away.

I have definitely made the correct choice of investing in an smg in my fourth weapon slot. I rarely use it though, considering a shotgun also does the job quite nicely, and in a more satisfying way. I actually like to use my revolver against rakks, since as long as I stop and take my time I can take them out in one hit while they're swooping down at me (as long as they're not one of the tougher ones).

To the OP, if you plan on using Zer0 they aren't a huge problem. His Decepti0n skill lets you see them even if they are cloaked. Add this to the Execute and Many Must Fall abilities in his Bloodshed skill tree and you can make short work of them, although this approach requires a focus on melee play, not sniping.

Also I'm criticizing the game itself not people's enjoyment of it,I've accepted that people have different tastes and preferences.

The only way you could see people enjoying it was if they were drunk and with drunk friends. That roughly sums up what you said. That goes to the nature of the player as well as the game.

Borderlands 2 is pretty fun even solo. It's just better with friends.
