I found my old PC version of the game. And it still fucking rocks. Flying Battery Zone, Hydrocity, Angel Island, it is still fucking awesome.

And yet I am sad, if only because every single Sonic game after this one sucked shit. But the nostalgia is great.

Have you ever found an old game from a series that made you nostalgic for when the series was great?

I disagree Sonic and Knuckles (especially combined with Sonic 3) was still good, in my opinion that is.

SHUN THE NON-BELIEVER!

Naw, seriously, Sonic Colors was actually decent. You won't want to rip off your ears because of the voice cast, because it's actually better. Don't believe me? Roger Craig Smith does Sonic. Who is that? Well, he did the voice of Chris Redfield, and of Ezio. And the other voices aren't bad either. And the gameplay is awesome.

Anyways, onto the OP.

I loved playing the first Half Life on the PS2, after being away from it for so long.

From not being home a lot i come home one day and see my mums boyfriends kids sitting in front of the TV with my old Playstation 2 and playing Sly 2 of course none of them knows anything about it or how to play it but after a while i finally got my hands on the controller and after getting through a couple of places i could feel the nostalgia showing with the teasing between Sly and Carmelita, the gameplay and the cartoony sound effects and graphics. I hadn't played that game for years and currently i can't wait for the 4th to come out.

Sly Cooper was one of the best games on the Playstation 2, hands down.

I for one have just finished playing through Link's Awakening on the 3DS. Not to say that Zelda games have gone downhill since then, because they are all still great fun, but it's so great to see where the series was over ten years ago.

I agree, Sonic 3 (especially combined with sonic and knuckles) was the best sonic game. But hey, I LOVED sonic adventure 2 battle on gamecube; that to me was a fantastic game and probably the only good newer sonic game (everything else pretty much sucked).

I also agree with you that Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) was the best Sonic game. Yet, I disagree with the games that follow after being terrible. I find the series to be picking up steam now thanks to the improvements in Unleashed (not including the Werehog) and Colors. Mind you, I have MUCH more nostalgia for Sonic Adventure 1 than Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Heck, I played and enjoyed it over two years. I loved the three Genesis games. SA1, SA2, Unleashed, and now Colors. Of course, the title of best 3D Sonic game for me is split between SA2 and Colors though. Regardless of the game, (almost) every of them had a great soundtrack.

Sonic 3? Awesome?

Nostalgia occasionally colors your judgement. Remember this?

I'm sorry, I replyed it recently and Sonic 3 and Knuckles was one of the best platformers ever made. Clever level design, great music, wonderful graphics. I played it when I was young too, but really, it's amazing.

Also, fuck you, Sonic Adventure series rules.

Yes S3 & S3&K was awesome. I don't get why that barrel gave so many people trouble, though.

I get that longing feeling when playing any FF before X. Don't get me wrong, I thought X was good, but it had a lot less freedom and lacked some kind of indiscernible thing that was present in its predecessors.

I agree that Sonic 3 was the best in the Sonic series but I wouldn't say all the games afterwards were shit...hell, I'm still wanting them to release SA2 on XBLA especially after playing SA1 again recently :/

Also news of the MGS and Silent Hill HD collections have made me pine for the previous games again :(

I'll certainly agree that Sonic 3 & Knuckles was the best Sonic game I played, but I've actually rather enjoyed both 3D games I've played so far (Heroes and Unleashed). Not to mention I absolutely loved Sonic 3D Blast, and I don't recall hearing much love elsewhere for that game. Same with Sonic Spinball, but I don't remember hearing anyone talk about that game...

And I keep hearing good things about Sonic Colors.

I figured out the solution on my own, so I feel perfectly justified in not counting it against Sonic 3...I mean, I grant you it was pure accident at first, but once I noticed that my landings where I hit the down button went farther, it was just a short mental leap to the answer.

Besides, wouldn't something that frustrating be counter-nostalgic? Once you know the incredibly easy solution to a tough puzzle, why is it a problem any more?

I'd say there've been several decent to good Sonic games after the Sonic Adventure days. It's just that Sonic suffers from a fanbase that is impossible to please. Even on the occasion that Sonic Team makes exactly what the fans have been asking for (Sonic 4).

Indeed Pedro! There have been several decent to good Sonic titles after Adventure. Technically, Heroes was mediocre and the rest were well... "forgettable" or plain "terrible". Sonic 2006 was truly terrible because of its botched execution due to lack of development time. I can see what Sonic Team wanted in theory for this game but, they rushed it out - leading it to become the abomination that we know today. Sonic Unleashed was (very) good if not decent - though as we probably know, the Werehog (actually ïlwolf would be the proper term but, rule of cool) was one of the major weak-points. Then again, the werewolf wasn't that bad, just quite repetitive. If they had more time for development, they could have "spruced" up the concept a bit more. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was also decent but, the game was a bit too easy (episode 1 final boss notwithstanding) and the physics being too floaty. Colors was truly the game where they perfected it (though I kinda missed the hedgehog, and a level on par the difficulty of Eggmanland).

But yeah, the fanbase of Sonic is one of the worst I have EVER seen. Long story short, it almost seems like they refuse to be pleased. Sonic Team has no hope for appeasing them. I really hope they take the path of Modern Sonic (with sporadic classic-like outings). Personally, I loved all the Genesis titles, the Adventure series, Unleashed, and Colors and am looking VERY forward to Sonic Generations.

tl;dr: Not all post-Adventure Sonic games suck - just aren't exactly on par, I loved quite a few of them, the Sonic fanbase is one of the worst, and I am looking forward to Sonic Generations.

Heh, the first time I played the Genesis' Sonics was with the Sonic's Genesis Ultimate Collection for the 360, but unfortunately it doesn't have the lock-on feature of S&K, so I bought S3 and S&K sepparately in XBLA just to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles. And I didn't had any nostalgia for those games earlier and I gotta say that I had a blast playing them.

And yes, poor Sonic Team has the exact same "fanbase" as Nintendo, practically impossible to please.
