Hello young man, welcome to the night.

I've lived at night almost exclusively for the past ten years. There's lots to learn...

But for starters, don't speed. Keep it within 4mph of the posted limit, or you WILL be pulled over.

They don't care if you are on your way to or from work, or that morning rush hour daywalkers all do a MINIMUM of 10 over the limit when you're on your way home. This is the night and these are the rules.

Play smart and you might get hooked.

Things happen at night. Crazy things.
Creepy post is creepy. I've actually been doing most of my driving at night for the past 3 years, since I always seem to end up working jobs at night. I've never really had a preference for late-shift jobs, they just always seem to find me. I've also been speeding on my way to/from those various jobs for all of those 3 years, so I guess I am just very lucky. Then again, I live in the middle of nowhere, and most of the roads I drive on are back-roads where cops can't really camp.

Does that apply to drunk driving, or speeding in general?

Either way it is not a good idea.
Speeding, and only speeding.
Again, still a terrible idea. Why would I follow the speeding laws if this was the case? People who are speeding are assuming they wont hurt anyone, though there is a higher chance that they will, whats to stop them if they only get warnings for speeding without hurting anyone?
Sorry, I'm pretty biased on this issue, and I don't feel like arguing. You have your opinion, I'll have mine.
I'm just waiting for some sort of logic put behind this thought, regardless of bias. Because it seems illogical and stupid to me.

First time I was pulled over I had a machete, scythe, a box filled with carving knives and a stack of blank CDs. They were for gardening (By gardening, I mean ripping the Christ out of a jungle that had once been my parents vegie garden), and the knives were for the BBQ afterwards.c The blank CDs though were filled with downloaded movies and TV shows, all of which I downloaded and burned when I was about 14-16, and are now used as either Frisbee's, or paperweights. I spent the entire time (Was a random pull over...they do that in New Zealand) hoping he wouldn't see them bundled on the back seat floor and wouldn't have to spend hours explaining what they were for.

I got pulled over on the 4th actually, driving home from work sometime after midnight. Technically I should have seen it coming, my headlight has been out for about a month and I've been too lazy to do anything about it. At the same time, I felt like it was not a priority since I've been driving all over creation and by police in many different towns, and state officers as well with nothing.

But of course, it was the fourth of July, in the middle of the night, and after running my plates he saw I was only 22 and was probably hoping he could slap me with a DUI. I can even safely say I wasn't speeding thankfully, I usually have a hard time on the 25mph road that leads to my house. (edit: used to be 40mph until a family with a deaf child moved on the road)

I knew as soon as he flew up on my ass that he was gonna get me. He asked me about my driving record, where I was going/coming from, and then gave me a written warning and sent me on my way.

I guess I got lucky though, he was pretty nice. The cops in my town are over payed and are usually hanging around Wawas drinking free coffee rather than doing anything useful. Crime rates are pretty low, and there never seems to be one around when people really deserve to be pulled over.

I live at "the Jersey Shore" (ugh) though, and they tend to really hunt down out of town/state people in the summer.

Jersey Shore? LOW crime rates? Wow, I'm surprised. Though the cops in my area are the same (in fact I drove by WaWa only minutes beforehand...) and I also live in kinda a tourist area with a low crime rate. Really though, the cops here never have anything to do, and from what I hear they love to find any reason to charge anyone with anything.

I have not yet been pulled over yet, luckily. Although my dad was in Seattle but was let off since the cop liked the new immigration bill in Arizona, we live in Arizona.

Haha, I don't live in seaside heights or anything. I live in the little shit-town right before Long Beach Island. And it's got a few problems, but half of my neighborhood doesn't even lock their doors at night during the winter. It seems to be getting slightly worse as more people decide to move here (for reasons I can't fathom, there's literally NOTHING to do during the off-season).

during the summer, however....*shudder*

My logic is that if nobody got hurt, nothing bad happened.
So attempted murder or Rape should go off with a warning? You can't apply this only to speeding, because its the same concept. If you let go an attempted rapist because he didn't "succeed" then he is likely to try again. If you let go someone who was speeding they are likely to speed again.

But the law was still broken, and regardless if no one got hurt the person speeding put everyone's life in danger.

Why have they made drunk driving checks more frequent? Because people think they could control alcohol better than the average person and can drive a car. But in reality they are putting everyone's life at risk. That's why its become the norm to arrest everyone that's gone over the average limit.

By letting people go off without a warning you're telling them its okay to speed if you don't hurt anyone else. Which it is not.
