Inception? You mean the The Matrix part 4? That's right, sequelception!Hawki said:Wait a minute...when did Inception get a sequel?
Also, at 0:34...Eleventh Doctor anyone?
Snark aside, this looks interesting. Self-contained, free of quips, takes itself seriously...whoda thought?
Well before they announced it a Strange film was the top of my list of hoped-for characters to appear in the MCU. Early talk from around the project referenced it as 'Marvel's Fantasia', and Derrickson's twitter, er, wallpaper-thing has some of the original Ditko art.mduncan50 said:Inception? lol In all seriousness though, being someone that has read a lot of Doc Strange comics, until people started pointing them out I didn't even see the similarities to other movies, because what I'm seeing is those comics brought to life. Plus, when the good Doctor was doing it 50 years ago, I find it hard to believe he was the one doing the copying.
I'm willing to bet it will be a lot Stranger than what we are seeing here, with them having hired a horror director. I think Marvel wants to make sure they don't completely freak out the general population not familiar with the Doctor, and I'm sure they want to save a lot for the movie.Darth Rosenberg said:A Strange film doing justice to Ditko needs to be full of very bold, almost garish primary colours and abstract geometries. It's a horribly obvious pun... but a Doctor Strange film needs to be much stranger than what's shown in this trailer.
Its fucking magic dude. Doctor Strange is a wiiizzzard. Well, he calles himself a sorcerer, but I go by DnD rules, so hes a wizard. With Guardians of the Galaxy, and now Doctor Strange, realism is off the table, and I'm fine with that.Silentpony said:Alternate realities, changing of fates, dream sequences and the power to alter reality.AccursedTheory said:Curious - besides the upside down cityscape, what was Inceptiony about this?Silentpony said:So its Marvel's take on Inception.
I mean I'll go see it, but I didn't think Inception was that good of a movie. There better be a HawkEye cameo, all I'm sayin'...
And the upside down cityscape. Kinda' a big one.
Oh and the BWAAAA notes for dramatic effect.
If we're lucky, Dr. Strange will say "ARCANE TOOOORTUUURE!!" at some point.Elfgore said:Thanks to that show, that is the only way I can hear Doctor Strange in my mind in the comics. Makes you take him a lot less seriously than I should. The Madman said:snip
Anyway, trailer looked nice. Always good to see a trailer too that isn't non-stop action for a Superhero movie. I've always had my eye on this one anyway though, so this only got me more interested.
Is that the same Madam Gao that's in Daredevil, because after the first seasons more down to Earth fighting Wilson Fisk and big criminal organisations I am getting a little side swiped by Season 2 taking what is rapidly looking like some sort of magic, immortal, cultist direction, I guess that would at least fit in with the kind of themes of Doctor Strange at least.Need Madame Gao
No, he's never quite reached that level of power (and it took him a decade to reach the level of Earth's Sorcerer Supreme), there are limits on the power of spells and the drain they place on him. He can take out pretty much anyone one-on-one, but against an army, I'll take the Hulk every time.Laughing Man said:Is that the same Madam Gao that's in Daredevil, because after the first seasons more down to Earth fighting Wilson Fisk and big criminal organisations I am getting a little side swiped by Season 2 taking what is rapidly looking like some sort of magic, immortal, cultist direction, I guess that would at least fit in with the kind of themes of Doctor Strange at least.Need Madame Gao
As for the trailer, meh, didn't grab me, then again Antman's first didn't so I'll wait and see what else they throw at us, it's Marvel so I am not worried but having so far had all the Marvel stuff being based in either tech, alien tech or mutation a movie that throws in magic worries me, isn't Dr Strange so powerful he could have just snapped his fingers and ended the Battle of New York, stuck Sokovia back in it's hole in the ground and basically end Thanos in a heart beat, how do you make someone that powerful interesting also doesn't he also render the rest of The Avengers a bit useless / pointless?
If we're judging directors on their twitter feeds, then Derrickson's frikkin' awesome. But whilst they hired a horror director, is it a good director? I've not seen anything he's done, but it all looks rather ho-hum (granted, the Russo brothers were complete unknowns to me, and I think Cap 2's the best MCU film yet).mduncan50 said:I'm willing to bet it will be a lot Stranger than what we are seeing here, with them having hired a horror director. Oh good to have some info I had just heard a few stories about him being stupid powerful a sort of all our heroes are dead and defeated everything is doomed and then up pops Dr Strange snaps his fingers and suddenly everything is okay. No, he's never quite reached that level of power (and it took him a decade to reach the level of Earth's Sorcerer Supreme), there are limits on the power of spells and the drain they place on him. You mean you don't want him to have a cameo? But we need to see the Watcher.Darth Rosenberg said:I also kinda hope Stan Lee just keeps his mush out of this film, too...
Pft, he comes across as more like that Star Wars comedy duo I just found out about yesterday. Erm, oh yeah - Tag and Bink.mduncan50 said:You mean you don't want him to have a cameo? But we need to see the Watcher.
Uatu is held by Marvel. There is actually an old theory that all of Stan's cameos across all Marvel movies is the Watcher keeping an eye on the different properties for them(including at Fox and Sony). But yeah, it would be cool to see Uatu and Strange hanging out in a parallel dimension somewhere.Darth Rosenberg said:Pft, he comes across as more like that Star Wars comedy duo I just found out about yesterday. Apropos Uatu, though; who owns the rights to him? 'Cause Strange sharing some scenes with Uatu in the MCU would be very welcome.
