So I just bought Minecraft

I've been a fan of classic MC for a while now and just bought the beta, I've had a few hours of fun on the single player but I cant think of much to make, with the craft bench and with blocks, any ideas?

Find a cave and make it habitable. Then dig down, find a tunnel system and mine out every bit of ore you can find.

For a challenge, see if you can find enough leather/iron to make a full set of armour, and see if you can get diamond tools. There's always something to set as an objective for yourself.

With the craft bench it's best to just go on the wiki [http://www.minecraftwiki.net] and look up everything you can make. Saves a lot of time and frustration when you don't know how to make anything.

A castle is always a nice first "big" project.

A tip for finding a cavern\cave with many exposed ores: search the open area until you see a cobblestone with dirt\sand blocks around it. Dig straight down and eventually you will find yourself in a nice warm cavern.

I'd say definitely check out the wiki for tips and tricks on crafting.
Other than that, don;t have the difficulty on peaceful, be a true survivor. I used to have difficulty on peaceful all the time, but after playing on the facepunch server for a while I find that having monsters around is just another layer of awesome. Actually, you should look around for a Minecraft server online that plenty of people play on.

Personally I enjoy mining until finding dirt/gravel and then digging that away completely. You tend to find ores in the area and digging is much quicker than mining. It makes a nice cavern area as well and sometimes you find new caves.
