I think the girl you were referring to was Jesse Slaughters, whose father became famous for the "Ya dun goofed" meme which a lot of people misinterpreted as a win for Anonymous. If you look further the reason the dad felt that he had to come on camera is because of the death threats she received for not giving them child pornography. Not exactly heroic stuff.
A) The article was fairly inaccurate and DoB was committing the crime of talking about anonymous instead of writing another one of his "My brief time as" articles which is almost as shameful as the lack of research he put into it.
B)Anon tends to seesaw back and forth between utter monsterdom and incredibly benevolent. Usually they are about halfway between the middle and the monsterdom but they are not truly evil just twisted. They aren't really a group either. They are much more of a sub culture if anything.
I too saw that Cracked article and also felt guilty for laughing back when I saw the video. Clearly there are just a bunch of sick fucks out there. I mean it must be better to just act anonymously together than to associate yourself with a group that also does things like that.
I went on 4chan once and the first thing I saw was a mans cock. I don't see why I'd go on it, regardless how good it may be, when it has so much disgusting stuff.
You... uh... you don't really understand what Anonymous is do you? "They" so to speak, are not a group, just a title under which many people hid their actions. The title has been used for good and for bad.
Anonymous isn't really good or evil. However, while I don't agree with the pedophile part, this chick seriously deserved what she got. I lol'd at the video of her dad yelling at the camera, so I watched one of her videos to see what earned her this uber trolling. She was truly a whore.
1. It's a Cracked article. I'm not going to willingly believe them right off the bat.
2. Knowyourmeme completely counters every single thing said in the article. Her video was apparently posted on 4Chan where she then caught /b/'s attention and then they trolled her for being a spoiled brat.
This is why there needs to be an internet age limit.
The Knowyourmeme research also shows that she was "something of a micro-celeb on StickyDrama, and had been posting questionable images and videos on her Myspace, YouTube, and other social networking profiles." Yeah... There are photos, apparently. I'll take their word for it.
So who am I to believe, researchers from across the web, most of whom probably don't even get paid for their work, or Cracked, and I don't know what Cracked does to get it's articles.
Hooray, another opinion thread on Anonymous with absolutely nothing new or relevant to bring to the table in terms of either information or discussion value. Thanks, OP, three per day just wasn't cutting it.
Ah anon. Crawling chaos. Guided by the logic and impulse of the many. People still crack me up when they announce their hate over you. Sometimes its just better to laugh off when someone is wrong on the internet.
...
Lets pretend that Anonymous controls the flow of memes. How far would that trail go?

Yet another thing which suggests people might be bad.. hmm, to be quite honest, its the interwebs, until I actually have to live in it I'm quite happy to leave it as the hell-hole that it is.. oh apart from this lovely grotto of happiness called the escapist.. mostly..
OT: anonymous, from what I know are a quite anarchistic group and praised by people for their work against unpopular people (e.g. politicians), so I don't see what need they have to terrorize people on the interwebs..
I'd tell them to keep a leash on their members but organized anarchy is a oxymoron so...
And its 4chan (to me it seems like channel 4 after 9pm but on the Internet..), I took one look at that site and its cheap plain white background, I hate websites like that.. its virtual, its free to make it look pretty, like this site does..
Yeah.... I saw those videos regarding that 11yo girl, and I think she didn't get enough shit from them honestly. That girl is already headed to be a (w)horrible person at such a young age, and her parents are stupid enough to support her and her actions (at least publicly). Death threats are not assassinations attempts, because anyone will throw them around casually (I'll kill you if you eat my sandwich, Etc, etc.). I'd be far more sympathetic if she had some genuine harm come to her or her family for putting her face out on the net, but she acted like a tard and got trolled hard for it. There are just somethings you don't do for certain audiences, and then there are things you don't do for any audience. That girls actions fell between both those lines.
I'm not defending anon so much as I just see where they were coming from. I don't have any respect or disrespect for anon, but I usually like 75% of their attacks because their targets usually have earned it in some way. I just wish they'd do more than DDoS attacks. That's so lame. I just wonder why they haven't gone all out on the Westborro church yet.
i read something on "Cracked" about how Anonymous actually issued death threats to an 11 year-old girl just because she called people on 4chan losers for requesting she strip.
after reading this, i honestly will not support ANYTHING Anonymous does and i hope they all get arrested, tried, and convicted of child abuse and attempted murder.
if it were up to me, i would string them up by their ankles and cut off their hands so they could be left to bleed out. and i mean ALL of them. Anonymous is not a silent defender, they are a obviously a group of bullies who occasionally throw temper tantrums when something dare threatens their freedom to post child pornography...
it's the sixth one down.

First of all, duh. Second, anonymous isn't one specific group. The anons that threatened an 11 year old are most likely not the same anons that brought a pedophile to justice.
