Ratchet and Clank 1-3
Jak and Daxter 1-3
Psychonauts
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System

Those are the games I've had for years and haven't been willing to part with...Even though I no longer have a working PS2...Just that good.

Pick up some Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter. Good stuff right there. Insomniac and Naughty Dog respectively; they make good stuff.

Get Okami. If you don't get it, then Amaterasu will be disappointed...

You wouldn't want that now would you?
Eh. Better the TC disappoints some character that actually can't be disappointed than becomes disappointed that he or she spent money on a rather blah game with a mediocre story made worse by the rambling of the little green bug man and gameplay that acts like Legend of Zelda but doesn't even come close to being as interesting.

After reexperiencing Final Fantasy X and realising it is not as good as i initially thought when i played it years ago, and after crying to the casualness of FFXIII, i thought that Final Fantasy XII is somewhat a masterpiece gameplaywise. Although the story was a bit meh, atleast it spins the Final Fantasy gameplay in a way that i hadnt experienced, but still didnt feel as distant as XIII did.

God of War 1-2 are also awesome. Metal Gear Solid 3 is a gem as already mentioned. But i have always thought that Metal Gear Solid 2 was gravely underestimated solely on the basis that you dont play as snake for the major part of the game. IF you take MGS4 and the upcoming game where you play as Raiden again into account then you will see some major character development.

Theres some other JRPG skypirate game, or whatever, that i cant remember the name of.

Tons of other games worth the money as well

I'd go with the God of War series, great, great games.

Grand Theft Auto's a must.

Can't think of other titles right now for some reason

Both of the Battlefront games are epic. Also, if you like fighting games, go for DBZ Budokai or Tenkaichi.

...but don't really know of any kick-ass games for it. I know of a few, which I'm planning on getting as soon as humanly possible.

But I'm genuinely very uneducated about the truly great titles of this console, so can anyone recommend any?

I feel I should point out for the sake of me not getting swamped to death with suggestions for them, I'm already planning on getting Ico, Shadow of the Collosus and Silent Hill 2.
Question.

What genres do you prefer?

I mean, one could suggest the best game of its genre, but if you don't like the genre.. Well it's still gonna suck, isn't it?

Well, here are some random picks you might enjoy. I did.

Project: Snowblind

Basically a spiritual sequel to Deus Ex, but without any real role-playing elements. Basically a straight-foward FPS. Still enjoyable.

Darkwatch

A mix between gothic western and vampire survival-horror, combined to make a criminally fun shooter. I certainly enjoyed it, although it probably isn't for everyone.

Raw Danger

While the graphics and sounds are awful, the game itself is a great take on the survival-adventure genre.
Still: Good luck finding it if you live in Europe.

Evil Dead: Regeneration

It's Evil Dead.

Freedom Fighters

Originally an extremely overlooked game, Freedom Fighters has gained quite the cult following, and currently stands as one of my favourite third-person shooters of all time.

Fatal Frame (any of them)

If you like scary stuff, go with any of these. They might be a bit slow for some, as well as more complicated than one would expect, but they'll keep you hooked once you get into them.
The 2nd one is probably the best and scariest of them all.

Gregory Horror Show

One of the most bizarre games you can get on the system. Essentially an adventure game; very difficult to describe.
By the way; it was never released in North America.

Shadow Hearts

Great if you love classic JRPGs, with a very strange horror twist. It's getting kind of rare now though.

Pirates: The Legend of Black Kat

Pirate adventure game with tons of stuff to do. Great if you like exploration.

Devil Summoner

Very underrated action JRPG. A bit linear and repetative, but intriguing and very unique.

Silent Hill 2

One of the greatest things ever made by mankind, and my favourite game of all time. I see you've heard about it, so I won't go into much detail.

Yeah, I suppose some of these picks suck in some peoples' eyes. I'unno, I enjoyed them.

I liked Final Fantasy X alot. It's very polished and looks great on the PS2.

Get the original three Tomb Raiders as well. The graphics are a little dated but they're very fun games.

Timesplitters: Future Perfect... In fact all the Timesplitters, just get them all.

Can't own a PS2 and not have Timesplitters.
This. Plus TimeSplitters 1 and TimeSplitters 2 and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect and then buy all the TimeSplitters games and if you still don't know what to play, just buy the entire TimeSplitters series!

I had a lot of fun on Destroy all humans! and Destroy all humans! 2 on my PS2. Also look for Star wars Battlefront 1 and 2, and im sure you've been recommended all the obvious ones, like silent hill 2. Also, if you are into Warhammer 40,000 fire-warrior is useful just for lore's sake if you can get a hold of it.

Hitman: Blood Money,
SOTC as suggested before,
Destroy All Humans (the original) is rather fun, and...
Psychonaut, as well!
