seems to be getting in on the gaming merch side of things

I mean I've notced the few times I've gone to their stores theres a few more action figure/t shirt that wasn't there before, I man I remember before there was the odd mousepad but Its more noticable

and just now going to their website theres a whole advertisment on all kinds of up and coming stuff (action figures, T shirts, even a replica of ezios hidden blade)

I think I'm seeing kind of a shift here...so why?

I get the feeling this may be some kind of attempt to keep the retail side relevant? (with the whole digital thing)

and In a way I supose it makes sense...to paint your chain of stores as a sort of "everything gaming!" type place with all kinds of cool toys to entice people in

[small/]I guess 6 months ago I would have really liked this...but now its not such a big deal to me since I already knew about a couple of "specialty toy store" stores in my area (and now online...meaning the sky is no longer the limit) makes me wonder if it will affect the "toy store" at all [/small]

I guess that makes sense for them to go into that area of retail since really the only store that I've seen that carries that kind of stuff is the Atomic Comics not far from me, and that place is cluttered with figurines of the sort.

I seriously though EB Games was gone since I can't tell you where that store is anymore where I live. I just got learned.

Could just be another step in the long path to convert all EB Games stores into franchises of Gamestop.
was it already common for Gamestop to carry gaming merch?

there's no gamestop in Australia, the main (well only you might as well say) specialised game retailer is EB games..they are everywhere

I just posted how they, in truly Gamestop style, leaked a GW2 release date

So THAT'S where they all went, huh...

So you get all the privileges of having a Gamestop without the name, yay?

They converted most of the American EB Games into Gamestops when they Gamestop purchased EB. Maybe they want to do something similar in Australia.

EB has been owned by gamestop since 2005...(acording to wikipedia) I don't know what the deal is...mabye they didn't change the stores because the EB name was already established over here? but from what I can gather there isn't that much difference

I've never seen a "gamestop", but you'll find an EB (or two) almost anywhere

In my city the main EB is across from the main JB, and next door to the overpriced import shop which is 70% merch. So this should be interesting.

Yeah that sounds about right for a Gamestop too, I thought that maybe they would be vastly different, how very odd.

well JB don't really do merch

as I said..about 6 months ago I discovered a store that specialised in nerdy actionfigures/satues, it would be a shame to see places like that go

all the games come in plain packages? (since our government wanted to do that with cigarrets...)

No but I wanted to mention that the three important stores all occupy the same basement :p

It's weird too because the EB moved there from elsewhere in the mall after the other two where very well established and I can't actually figure out why EB keep drawing so many customers. Range I guess.

I'm interested to see if that particular one starts selling much merch, and how it affects the dynamic that they've all got going on down there. How is their pricing? If it's reasonable they might actually end up stealing customers from the import shop.

I don't know, more new games than used because I swear the GS here have more used than new and it's kind of annoying since it took me forever to find Lollipop Chainsaw.....sorry, got off track.

Perhaps more room to wonder around, and possibly more of the figurine type stuff, something different. Otherwise it sounds like a GS without the name on the store, I just thought it would be different somehow.

I know the games are all wrapped in the plastic wrap that takes an act of God to get open.

yeah I see what you mean..I think the new-used balanced does favor pre owned

but really theres not much difference with a dedicated agme retail store

and I think most games (particually console oens) are gutted..even new ones

I'm assuming when you mean gutted as in the disk isn't in the case....?

Well, I thought it was just the new games that were wrapped but I bought El Shaddai used and it was wrapped, so I have no idea what they're doing anymore.

The way I understand it, the stores have their own shrink wrap machines. If you buy a shrinkwrapped game at a Gamestop (and presumably at an EB), chances are it's been opened up at some point and then re-wrapped. One of the parts of <link=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_273/8145-Confessions-of-a-GameStop-Employee-Part-One>this article series explains it.

I noticed right away since I go there quite a lot.

I brought a t-shirt, a normandy replica and pre-ordered a hidden blade replica.
I actually like that since I can't buy shizzle on the internet! D:<

So I like it because I can actually buy something. :D
