People of the Escapist, once more I need your help. I am planning on getting a laptop for my final year at college and then university and I need advice on what laptop I should get.
It needs to be optimised for media (videos/pictures/publishing software) and writing, the price range will be up to £1250.
If anypone can show off their own laptops or provide any advice reviews that would be very much appreciated.

I'm on a Hewlett Packard right now, and it's lasted the longest out of the three laptops I've owned (Compaq got 1 year, Toshiba 1 year, 8 months, HP has reached that milestone.) and I'm on it for vast amounts of time since there is nothing to do out here. It does need it's battery replaced however. It's been overheating. I know HP had an issue with that and had to do a recall, so if you do go with them, that would be something to watch for.

Really? I've had this Gateway laptop for four years and it's still pushing strong. Of course, it is extremely outdated and I can't play darn near any games on it, but it CAN run Windows 7 and it can be on way longer than any laptop should be.

Yeah, the Compaq got fried thanks to the idiots at Staples giving me the wrong adapter for it when I had to replace, and the Toshiba hard drive just snapped one night. Literally, a piece broke off inside it. Lost all my data.

I'm also looking for a laptop Corallls, this thread has been actually pretty helpful, thank you.

[sub](I'm just looking for a good gaming laptop (I know that kind of phrase irritates people who want to help so much but it's true :p), also it must be nigh indestructible as this will have direct exposure to me on a constant basis)[/sub]

If you can't be dissuaded from wanting one, get one of the high end Asus models. Good specs and Asus laptops tend to be quite robustly built.

Don't buy an Acer or a Dell. They are both horrible.

In fact, I'd recommended buy the cheapest laptop you can find and spend the rest of your money on a desktop. That way you have something portable you can take with you, but you can do all your CPU-intensive work at home. Then when your cheap notebook breaks (because they all break) It doesn't really matter as you haven't lost anything valuable, and it won't be hard to replace.

Plus your desktop can be upgraded and will actually last.
