Yea, I know. Lot's of people quit their jobs everyday, and so why should I be special? I am not. but I just feel a huge, huge load of my back and I can now really concentrate on what I love to do.

I get the feeling that a lot of people on this site work in retail, so how would you feel if you quit your job, and what would you do?

I'm getting out of the Army soon. It's kind of like quitting a job.

I feel fucking fantastic.

lol . I think when my boss talked about "firing" me, he only meant it as a metaphor.

I was quite happy when I quit. They hadn't given me a shift in six weeks and midterms were soon, so I gave my two weeks notice. Now I don't have to drive 50 minutes north every weekend only to find out that I have no shifts.

On the downside, I haven't seen my family in a month... :(

Nobody should feel bad for quitting retail. It's a vile profession. I've been in it for about eight years and hopefully will be quitting it soon for my policing job. I'm so excited there are no words.

If I quit I wouldn't feel as weird badmouthing gamestop. It would be great to get out of retail though...well...that store anyway. Still, I would have more time to get through the games I haven't yet got through. I'll be leaving that place soon anyway as I'm moving out of state.

Out of curiosity, what is it that you're now concentrating on?

Sadly, I love working, except on busy days (I work at a restaurant). So if I quit, I'd be quitting one of the things I love. I rather drop out of school (I dread it, I basically only go so I can get my mom's medical care benefits so I only pay $40 for $1000 worth of meds a month).

Turned in a two months notice just to be nice.

Not doing retail, but it's kind of a medical/service industry mashup. Started out as a job to get me through uni, graduated right as the economy took a dump, stuck here for another year. Finally got to be too much to tolerate.

Hell, I'm young and unattached, at the end of April planning to spend all that misbegotten blood money traveling around Europe and banging hookers of all the colors of the ethnic rainbow.

If you don't feel special why did you make a thread about quiting your job. Also what do you love to do. I like my jobs. I have a main job that takes me away from home, the other I do when I'm not out. Both are good keep me busy and paid.
Ethnocentric, aren't we? Where does it say that I have to feel special to create a thread?

Oh, writing. Ghost writing to be exact. Lazy people don't want to do their stuff, so I do it for them....wait, that's how every other job works.
But yea, I love it.

Hmm. I wouldn't mind quitting my job. (I'm a university student, work part time at a supermarket. Very glamorous, I know.)

Sadly, I have pay rent and eat food on a regular basis. Plus video games aren't exactly cheap, especially in Australia.

Oh well. I guy can dream.

Good luck.

The only jobs I've had were paid summer internships. Having a 9 to 5 with no summer vacation is a nightmare I've not yet had.

What's so bad about retail though?

I don't think you know what ethnocentric means. You say you aint special for what you did then you call attention to what you did. Sounds a little hypocritical.
He made the thread because he was curious what other people felt about quitting their jobs, not to call attention to him quitting (what kind of attention would that be anyway? It's not like he was fired)

Ethnocentric definitely isn't the word though. Wouldn't want to make a mistake like that while ghost writing, haha

Before coming out to China (teaching internship, but as close to a real job as I've had) I worked at Dominos as a driver.

The boss was a *****, so much so that the otherwise positive job didn't have any appeal left when I had car trouble and she threatened my job for something which wasn't my fault.

Walked away that night, but apparently she didn't understand what that meant as I got a call two days later with her trying to yell at me (and failing) for missing workdays.

A huge weight was lifted when I walked away from that job.

Err, guys. There is no single accepted definition of the word. It has been used by many scholars in a variety of ways, most notably for me, by David H. Fischer (ISBN: 9780061315459). If you are of the opinion....well screw it. I'm right.
