I was thinking of getting a PS3 in the near future, however there are some questions I needed answering before I do:

1: I'm aware that I can play some import PS3 games, but can I also play imported PS2&1 games on it?

2: Can I save PS2&1 data to the PS3 Hard Drive?

3: Which is better, the $300 320GB "Slim" Bundle, or a $270-280 250GB "Super Slim" Bundle?

4: About what would you say the odds are that the PS4 will be announced within the next two E3s and have one or more of the following: poor backwards compatibility, reigon protection, online play fee, $700+ price tag?

Ok, I'll try to help.

1. Any ps3 can, of course, play PS3 games. They can also play PS1 games. Only the launch edition Fat PS3, whos data size escapes me, can play PS2 games.

2. Yes to both.

3. I'm not too sure honestly, I'm very sorry.

4. Personally, I'd be expecting it. If I recall correctly, they should be saying something next year at e3. Of the things you listed though, I wouldn't worry about region, online, or the price tag (THEY HAD A BIG LESSON HERE IIRC) Be on the lookout for poor backwards compatibility.

I tried!

I have a Japanese copy of Vib Ribbon for PS1 and it does not work on the slim. I used to have the 60GB software backwards compatible PS3 and it didn't work on that one either. Sorry, it's the only import game I have. I'm in the US, so I don't know if European (PAL) games will work.

2: Can I save PS2&1 data to the PS3 Hard Drive?
You can. You create 'virtual' memory cards on the PS3 for both PS1 and PS2 games, but you're not going to be able to play PS2 discs on it unless you pay through the nose for an old "fatty" PS3 with a real Emotion chip in it or a software BC. On the new slim PS3s you create virtual PS1/PS2 memory cards so you can play PS1 discs and downloadable PS2 titles. You have to beware because there are both PS2 HD remakes (with trophy support) and 'classic' PS2 games in regular definition with no trophy support.

If you have a PS1 or PS2 memory card with saves on it, there used to be a USB memory card adapter for the PS3. Just plug it in and you can transfer stuff over. I don't think those are around in stores any more.

3: Which is better, the $300 320GB "Slim" Bundle, or a $270-280 250GB "Super Slim" Bundle?
I didn't even know about the super slim until a few weeks ago. Early reviews say it's flimsy. I have the slim and am quite happy with it. Websites are complaining about the cheap disc door on the super slim but I think the motorized slot loader on my slim will eventually break down. Cheap or not, the simple door on the super slim probably has a longer lifespan.

4: About what would you say the odds are that the PS4 will be announced within the next two E3s and have one or more of the following: poor backwards compatibility, reigon protection, online play fee, $700+ price tag?
Can't help you there.
