Right...as the title of the thread tells you, I was just jumped, but that title is a lie. I was actually watching cartoons for about 30 minutes after said jumping, then I made this thread. Anyways, to the point, so I'm walking home and I get "jumped" or "assaulted" or "accosted" or whatever your prefered way of putting it is. Basically I was just walking home and the next thing I know these three guys......well, lets just say they hassled me or whatever. If it wasn't for the taxi driver going by who noticed and gave me a lift, things might've turned out pretty bad....What's more annoying though is my pride. At the moment my pride is killing me for more or less....running away. Whereas logic tells me that myself vs. 3 dirtbags ends up with me in a very bad way. Still, I'm not feeling proud of myself right now.

So my question/point of discussion is, have you ever been randomly attacked by a group of people before? And after the whole incident was over and done with, what were your feelings/thoughts on the whole matter, regarding yourself and any other people involved?

The funny part is, I read this and all I can think of is "...goddamn random encounters".

And no, you are no less of a man/woman/hermaphrodite/alien/gerbil/cactus/creeper/zombie for running away. It's called a 'tactical withdrawal'.

Oh, and I have never been 'jumped'. Got bullied once or twice back at school, but never 'jumped'.

Eh, you made a good choice. Who knows what those three guys had planned for you. You're lucky to have escaped with your life. You don't need to risk your life dealing with lowly dirtbags.

You didn't retreat, you advanced in a different direction.
I have never been attacked by a group of people. But if I do then I will exercise the Nike Defense.

The truth is, while I've had dealings with dirtbags like that before, this is the first time I've properly felt like I was in real trouble. After I got into the taxi that(thankfully)showed up, the driver told me that the wankers were actually following me when I changed direction to get into the car.

Right now I can't help but try and ponder every conceivable outcome to that situation.

Last time I got jumped was in highschool and I actually got stabbed (2x2x2 inch cut in my lower back). I did manage to fight back a bit since I actually didn't feel pain at the time, managed to break one dude's nose, and when he went to the hospital to get it fixed the cops had gotten a description from me and managed to get him (I guess he checked into the same emergency room that I did). I never found out what happened to the guy after, I know he was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, intent to rob, and something else I never really followed up since I was like 14-15 at the time and busy moaning over the 100+ stitches I had.
It was definitely a surreal experience, I definitely think it made me a little sour on the world and I've had some people comment that I put on a scowl when it gets dark and I'm walking on the streets.

Gah, don't have the books on me, but the Mando's have a phrase that translates to "Tactical Withdrawl" that works well here.

I know right? And they also outnumber you to the point of absurdity!

I've been jumped too, the time I got "robbed" I was going back to my house from school (I was in middle school) and the guy suddenly jumps out from an alley and says "give me all you're money or I'll cut you're throat" (in Spanish since I live in Mexico), and I say "ok here's my wallet" and handed over my wallet then I started laughing and he said "what's so funny" and I say "look inside" there was only a blastoise card (which I still carry in my wallet), and then he got really mad and started yelling at me that he would killed me I got scared and I wanted to cry but I was very stupidly taught to never show any weakness(always got me into trouble) so I turn around and as I'm about to start punching him (kinda funny since I was so short and skinny I could only pose 0 threat to anybody) I take a look at his face and say "wait aren't you Luis?" and he shuts up and then say "hey, it's you [my name], uh it was only a joke, uh yeah a joke I was just messing with you" and he gave me my wallet back and he says "see it's just a joke see you later man" and he walked away, turns out it was my old neighbor, man that was funny when it happened but the next day I got in trouble at school for carrying a knife because I thought maybe it could happen again *sigh* sometimes I'm so stupid he would have probably killed me if I had pulled a knife at him.

Well, to quote the Daredevil movie: "too much pride can kill a man". You did the right thing regardless of what you pride tells you. If you stuck with your pride you would be pocket change/"walkin' around money" poorer with one more trip to the emergency room under your belt (or one more trip to the morgue if it got bad enough).

Now, yes I have been jumped before and I ran. I felt relieved I was still alive with no broken bones. I was also impressed I could run that fast. Out of the two options of "fight" or "flight", I chose the one I stood a chance at succeeding. I did justify it by telling myself "I beat them with agility and wits rather than strength".

Hey, he who fights and runs away lives to fight another day!

I've never been attacked before, knock on wood. I just know where and where not to go. Though if I were and I were to run away, sure, I'd feel a little humiliated, but then come to the realization that it was worth it if it meant I'd live.

Don't worry about your pride in that situation, worry about your life. You did the right thing. There's a fine line between bravery and stupidity. You going at 3 guys alone on a dark street is not brave or prideful. It's a good way to get yourself hospitalized.

This sort of thing hasn't happened to me. Might have something to do with being a bearded badass.
