I hope so, I didn't like oblivion either. But it looks different and the thing that killed it for me was everybody looking the same and the boring UI. I think Skyrim looks completely different and fun.

How in the hell should we know? It's your subjective taste and opinions. If you're looking to use this forum as a research tool about the gameplay changes, I'd recommend you this site called Google.

I would say no, you probably well not like it, but then unless you meant that your a hardcore "jrpg" fan I can't see how you would like any rpg if you didn't like oblivion.

If you liked Oblivion, Skyrim looks like more of the same. While Oblivion had flaws by the truck load, it was still my favourite game ever and took up way too much of my time over the years.

I'm keeping my expectations low for Skyrim. I'm pretty sure there will be plenty of flaws, just like Oblivion. I just hope I can still have fun and be able to spend insane amounts of time avoiding actual human contact. It's almost certain to get a 9.0 on the IGN review thingy, I'm calling that right now! Not that I care about scores, I just need to know if the combat is gonna suck or not.

It depends what you didn't like about Oblivion's gameplay in detail. Skyrim will be the same as far as exploring, digging for quests, basically "living the life" of your character. As far as combat & organization go Skyrim will apparently be increased alot. However you'll still walk around towns, talk to alot of people, dive into dungeons that you're not sure you should be in (usually ends with finding something big and roaring), and wander aimlessly just to see what insane object or objective you'll find next.

So find out what you like and dislike, and (agree with Google) see what the changes are to find out if Bethesda is fixing what you hated.

I personally love just wandering around where I shouldn't be. I can't wait to randomly get attacked by dragons while meandering with a pack of momentarily peaceful giants. Momentarily here of course meaning "Disclaimer: Until dragon attack."

You will have to be more specific about why you didn't like Oblivion. We can't tell from your post, well much of anything. Gameplay could mean a lot of things...

Well maybe you should wait until the games out then play a demo or the game in a shop or borrow/rent it odds are though that if you didnt like Oblivion you wont like this particularly as you say you found the gameplay lacking because I cant see the gameplay having any drastic changes you will still go out kill stuff get quests and explore in an open ended way at least im pretty sure you will.

The biggest problem with the gameplay is that the melee combat did not flow very well for me. I will say the bow and arrow mechanics worked okay but i could not go through the game doing that

Skyrim promises a lot of things, but most of them are down to the setting.

I preordered it simply because I am praying it will be a 10th of how good Morrowind would be. If that's the case it'll be well worth the 60$ preorder.

In any event the gameplay does suck, I'll just find easily accessible mods that remove things like the retarded leveling system.

Morrowind: Awesome ('cept for the dicerollstatistic combatstyle)
Oblivion: Was allright. The hard gritty realism they threw in clashed with the fantasy setting Morrowind perfected (in my opinion) to a great experience.
Skyrim... Meh can't say without playing really. THey say they are going back to Morrowind for the feeling of the game.

I think you will like Skyrim, if you felt that Oblivion was to much realism and not enough fantasy. For the combat system, it's getting an overhaul so it's a wait and see situation.

It sounds to me like you are looking for more of an action-RPG, in which case Skyrim probably won't suit you. Personally I would rate combat mechanics extremely low on the scale of things I think are important in an RPG.

I didn't much care for Oblivion either mind you, but I loved Morrowind.

What I hope Skyrim will deliver is a complex and varied world to explore with it's own rich history and culture. Sadly from what I know it is missing a lot of the things I loved about Morrowind, yet the world looks so beautiful I consider it worth my $60 (okay I lied I am getting the CE, so $150) just to wander around and look at it.

I do know that Morrowind's combat is one of the biggest problems people had with that game though, so I wouldn't expect this installment to deviate too far from past titles in that department.

Im just going to point out that the perk system is going to give us far more ability for customising characters than morrowwind or oblivion had. In those games all that mattered was how high each individual level was. If you played long enough and maxed every stat you would have the exact same character as the next guy excluding gear. But in skyrim you wont be able to pick every perk.

Fallouts influence ftw!

edit: just watch this and see if you still hate how the melee looks

I would say wait a week after launch and see what other people think of it.
This. I honestly say that you shouldn't even be asking us until the game actually comes out. We don't know exactly how much has changed from Oblivion and whether it's significant enough or not. Wait till the game comes out, get some solid in-depth information for yourself (or us if you want the roundabout way), and then make the decision for yourself.

Edit to my last statement: I just saw the video above me. DAMN. I kinda eventually had a problem with Oblivion as well, largely due to the combat. But DAMN! My backlog consists of far too many RPGs at the moment. I can't possibly clear them all in time for this. (It will literally take me at least a year to finish my current backlog w/o marathon gaming sessions. Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim will not help)

Check out this threads by the Bethesda devs, it lists all the changes made to Skyrim from Oblivion.

A few of my friends have been talking about it, and what I find sad is when one said:
"It's great." Not "It's going to be great," just "It's great."
How do you know a game is great if you haven't even played it?
