Yeah so i'm 22 years of age , been amoking for 3 years , and today for the first time i want to quit , people always say that quitting soking is hard . I wouldn't know because this is the first time i try to quit . So any advice for me ? I'm not going to take patches or whatever the new product for quitting sokim , i'm going to try to do it with old fashioned willpower ( what will power still exists in 2011??) . I used to smoke half a pack a day and i'm going to quit cold turkey . So what to and not to do would be appreciated , and online support is cool too .

Don't quit smoking, no one likes a quitter. Hang out with me, we'll smoke cigarettes and go bowling.

Its not so much the phisical addiction, its mental. Just find some nicotine pills or sumthin, take up something else addictive (I recommend Minecraft), and if you really fel like you need a cig, just pop an nicotine pill and put a cig-shaped-thing in you mouth.

Go play some addicting games. Smoking for a few years now but I can easily go a day without smoking if I just have something to distract me.

You need to find a less harmful substitute to replace it with or you'll go straight back smoking (i know lots of smokers and it always happens to them)
Whenever you think you need a smoke, just do something else instead

Chew ice cubes. A fair bit of the addiction is repetition of action. By fulfilling the repetitive action, but with something else in your mouth/fingers, you may find the cravings lessened.

Good luck, I suggest just trying to avoid the chance to have one and keep yourself busy. Also even if your not doing it for health reasons you will save a ton of money.

You know that cigarette you always want the most? Maybe when you just wake up, after sex, or during your break at work? That is the ONE cigarette you can't let yourself have. Cold Turkey can be hard, and if it fails start weening yourself off instead, starting with the hardest one to let go. It gets a lot easier once you've done that.

Apparently cold turkey is the most successful method, so you're on the right track. As for emotional support...

My mother was in her late thirties, with two annoying sons and a useless husband, and she'd been smoking since she was 16. She decided quitting was a necessary step, so she did it. My father tried to, using patches and nicotine gum... when he bailed on us he was still a regular smoker, often doing it around her while she was trying to quit. But she did it anyway, cold turkey.

Over a decade later and she's not so much as touched another cigarette. If she can do it, you sure as shit can. So don't go making excuses for yourself.

...What? You never said the support had to be positive.

Tell your loved ones that you quit ..or else they will wonder why you all of a sudden bite their head off ..since all they said was hi ...

Just quit. My grandfather had smoked his whole life, then one day the doctor told him he should stop and he stoped. Never smoked again till the day he died.

Just quit and don't smoke again.

I used to smoke 2 packs a day for 10 years, until i found the right way to stop smoking.
A smokers physical addiction is very minute and can easily be fought, the mental addiction is much harder and requires a shift in attitude on your part.
You need to stop smoking cold turkey knowing that you don't lose anything from your life, you are actually reclaiming your freedom back.
you should also avoid any substitutes of any kind those only perpetuate the habit and psychological dependency.
and last you should always think that you are working towards achieving something good and not keeping yourself away from something you need...

best of luck.

You know that thing where you light the cigarette, put it in your mouth, and suck through it?

Yea, just don't do that.

I'm trying to quit just now too! I have ten years on you though. I find it easier when i have some support. When my g/f is home it is easier, when I'm alone I am far more likely to cheat. My advice would be to try not to be alone for the first little bit. It is really hard, I'm not gonna lie. I'm having a really tough go myself. You will probably slip and have a smoke here and there, but don't ruin it by having more than one. Immediately go back to quitting.

I'm not a huge help, I'm in my own struggle, but you are quite welcome to PM me if you see I'm around and you need someone to talk you down from a relapse quick. It would probably help me too. Good luck and let me know how things go. :)
