Yeah so i'm 22 years of age , been amoking for 3 years , and today for the first time i want to quit , people always say that quitting soking is hard . I wouldn't know because this is the first time i try to quit . So any advice for me ? I'm not going to take patches or whatever the new product for quitting sokim , i'm going to try to do it with old fashioned willpower ( what will power still exists in 2011??) . I used to smoke half a pack a day and i'm going to quit cold turkey . So what to and not to do would be appreciated , and online support is cool too .
-Don't make it chore, make it a choice.
-Also, if you happen to fall in don't beat yourself up over it or "punish" yourself for it. Just continue at your attempt at stopping.
-When you really, REALLY want a smoke, eat an apple, drink a glass of water, have a piece of gum etc instead.
-Get rid of ALL the ashtrays and lighters in your home.
When I stopped smoking last year, during the first month or so I basically replaced my cigarettes with chewing gum. Not nicotine, just regular old gum.
Kicking the mental addiction is harder than the physical addiction so far as I know, so you'll probably need to trick yourself a bit.
Carry a pen or a straw around to hold between your fingers or chew a bit on, substituting the cigarette with something non-addictive and non-deadly is usually a useful trick during the first weeks/months.
But yeah, as someone already said 3 years really isn't that much, I had been a smoker for around 14 years when I quit and didn't have any major problems with it so you should be fine.
Also, if you decide to look into smoke-stop aids, have a look at Neurolinguistic Programming. Its basically a combination of suggestion/coaching methods and its probably both healthier and a lot cheaper than the bullshit medicine that the medicine industry will try to sell you. Like Champix
