I know the advice is likely to build my own, but my dad isn't too fond of this idea (and he's paying for it, it's not mine). I've been looking round at prebuilt PCs, and this rig seems decent enough. I'd like to know your opinions on it:

Upgraded with an NVIDIA Geforce GTS450 1GB graphics card, and a 500W power supply.

Altogether it comes to about £530, and should be capable of running Skyrim pretty well (that's my main benchmark).

You could get a lot better with 530 pounds. If your dad is against building your own PC, you could always just take it to a computer shop and have them assemble it for you.

It's easier than Lego, really.

I'd recommend this company for pre-built systems. Excellent, excellent prices and specs.

Uh. 600 pounds for a GTX 460 and i5 2400. Or 570 pounds for an HD 5770 instead.

That's a pretty big markup.

As far as pre built's go, it isn't bad. Especially for a mainstream shop.

I always recommend this: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/pdet.to?poid=488794

Toshiba Qosmio is a great investment; I have had mine for nearly a year with no problems, and it runs every game I have smoothly. That, and it is sleek and sexy. Can't ask for much more.

I would advise against blowing $1,200 on a laptop. Spending around $800 on a desktop and using the rest for a netbook would be more economical.

Pre-built from where exactly?
Nowhere. That's the point; building your own PC is always going to be more cost effective than buying a pre-built.

Read my original post. If his dad is adamant about the OP not building it himself, he can just go to a local hardware shop or something and have them assemble it there.

Regardless of method, it'll be cheaper and probably more powerful than a pre-built.

Right, I can see your side now. But that's basically what the company I pointed to does. Having someone in a shop make it for you is still pre made though... =P

Well yeah, but you have the benefit of being able to choose exactly which parts you put in there for a cheaper price.

The point was finding a pre-built pc that wasnt as expensive as other pre-built pc's.

Not to mention that in most cases it'll be assembled with more care and attention and not loaded up with a bunch of crapware that will take at least an hour to uninstall (once you've found it all).
