?.and I need some help. Today, after importing some music on my computer (it's a desktop) I decided to check out my Steam account since I hadn't messed with it since sometime in november because of finals. Anyway, when I checked it, I saw that I had two games in my library that had the same name: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad. One is a beta and apparently the other is a 2 day trial.

I have no idea how these 2 games found themselves in my library. But I'm not really complaining about it, seeing as free games in my book are awesome. Right now I am installing them on my computer and after 3 hours, it is at 14 percent and I want to know what I can do to improve the installation time.

This sorta thing happens whenever it's a free weekend promotion for a game. Once the promotion is over it won't appear in your library anymore. Unless you install it... then, I dunno what happens. Chaos, maybe?

Installing the beta is probably a waste of time because there probably aren't any servers up for it/nobody playing it.

Right now you're not exactly installing the game but downloading the files to your computer, you can go to the settings --> download + cloud and change your region/what kind of internet you have and that may help. Otherwise you'd have to upgrade your internet to download any faster. Its pretty much the main disadvantage to digital distribution.

I got confused by that sort of thing myself. The only reason I have Steam is because they had Portal free for a weekend at one point, and I'd always wanted to play it.

It's the only game in my library. Perhaps if the next console generation really does suck, then I can actually make use of it.

Basically, what other people said. Although I want to add that if you are considering buying a game on Steam, wait. The holiday sale is going to start in the next couple weeks, and then just about everything will be on sale, sometimes for 75% off or more.

Well first make sure that you've marked the proper location of where you live in steam.

Also as everyone else said, wait until Christmas.

The idea of an empty Steam game library is as foreign a concept to me as if someone described to you having a shelf with only 2 XBox360 games is to you.

And yeah, that person is me. Actually I think we have 5 XBox games. 4 of them are different "Rock Band" games. Our XBox is a Rock Band machine :)

I'm so happy to have Steam now if for no other reason than I don't have to keep track of CDs and game manuals with CD Keys on them for years, just in case I want to re-install the game again.

My wii is a rock band machine now :)

I fell in love with steam for the same reasons. I now will generally not buy games unless they are on steam. This, I'll never see what happened to Shepard after I bogged the blue chick.

I used to be a BIG fan of Impulse (Stardock), but now that they've sold-out to Gamestop I don't buy Impulse games anymore. I wanted to be loyal to Stardock, so all of Stardock's published games like Galactic Civilizations, Sins of a Solar Empire, and DemiGod I purchased through Impulse.

After Impulse turned Gamestop I figured I'd be "Steam-Only" forever.

Then yesterday I discovered GoG... and I was very happy to start an account on there to pick up Planescape: Torment and Dungeon Keeper 2 and Baldur's Gate 2.

BUT I agree with you... the thought of having to install Origin on my computer to play Mass Effect 3 makes me sort of feel like I'm volunteering to have somebody poop on me. Even after I shower I won't be able to get it all off.
