Who cares about originality right??? I mean, lets just create a million remakes/reboots/recreations of EVERYTHING!

If you're concerned about it not looking right, one major mistake people make is not having clean animation, the images are chaotic, but cleanly (not referring to subject matter) drawn and logical.

But the biggest problem, the reason that no one has yet to pull it off, but him, is the voice. You have to sound right and most people come off as whiny and annoying. Don't bother making the images, unless you can get your voice to sound right. He sounds clever and authoritative; you too must convey that.

If your goal is to show how comics can be presented like animation in a minimalist way, don't rip Yahtzee off. Why?

1. It will be lame, as it always is whenever someone tries to emulate his style
2. Being original is way, way, WAY more fun
3. Yahtzee isn't the best example of what you're trying to demonstrate anyway

Why not grab this opportunity to do something truly creative and uniquely your own?

It seems most people didn't read the OP, Here's how I'd do it.

Write and record yourself first, plan out what scenes you want and where you want them.

Get a free Image editor like GIMP [http://www.gimp.org/] or inkscape [http://www.inkscape.org/] (inkscape might be difficult to get into) and setup a project. Design each character or prop with several layers so you don't have to redraw it every time you make a new frame. Export all shots in order to a folder. Line it up in WMM, and export.

Effects like color inversions and what not can be done either in program, or WMM I believe.

the last person who tried this disappeared suddenly...
Suddenly to us, not so much to yahtzee HE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED
I hear, Yahtzee still has his head preserved in a secret compartment.

And so sayeth the lord, from this moment on Yahtzee shall be bound to the earth to be this generations loki
So it is written, so it shall be.

EDIT: Sorry, I screwed up.

His work isn't a genre; he's got a really specific gig and emulating it is a bad idea.

That said, if you are determined to tread the doomed path, from interviews I've gleaned this about his workflow:

- Writes and records the skit beforehand
- Makes the panels in photoshop to 'visualize' what he's saying
- Tracks the photoshop-made panels to the audio in Windows Movie Maker (free)
- Profit
Imitiation is the sincerest form of flattery..

In terms of content, KneeLord's right. Make sure you script everything before you even try to emulate the style. At base value, ZP is photoshop and simple geometry. Not to insult Yahtzee, but most idiots can make pretty, aesthetically pleasing, politically incorrect shapes. Get your script nailed before move on, because even if you replicate the images successfully, without up to par writing, you will be staked and burned.

Try something original.
There's a flood of ZP fakes out there already, don't add to this nonsense.

Bad idea.

People don't like posers. Not even good ones. I'm not saying you are one, but most fucktards will probally assume you are one.

Tip Top Tip Of The Day: Find your own, unique style. People will enjoy it more.

At least try to make it distinct. It's a good style for reviews, but too many people just rip it off without even trying to give it a personal touch.

ZP and Yahtzee are a one and only, do NOT try and recreate him, as said above "Nobody likes a copycat"

Will someone stop and actually read the OP - he's not asking "should I use Yahtzee's style" - hes wondering how he should go about creating still images and discussing what they represent over them - he didn't mention the animation, the voice or whether he should proceed.

DO NOT DO THIS all the copies like "no punctuation" "some punctuation" etc. are just terrible so do us all a favor and don't try it.

If you have already done this you should be sent to a asylum of sorts where they beat you with dead pig corpses.

But if that won't stop you Yahtzee himself says he uses windows movie maker or something like that.

Would I need to create a new still for every "scene change" or "action" and just stretch out their displayed duration to the portion of the soundtrack that I want it to? I've done some fiddling with Windows Movie Maker (the program that I was recommended to use) and I don't think I spent enough time with it to really get a grasp over it, so if someone has a simpler explanation that they can scratch down and post, it'd really help me out.
Windows Movie Maker defaults to 5 seconds on the timeline if you use a jpg and import it. I hope the picture shows what you need to know. Also, photoshop is fairly easy to use for image editing and if it isn't.. use this great photoshop tutorial website. [http://www.photoshoplab.com/photoshop-tool-basics.html]
