So is anyone else getting this bug in the Last of Us? Not the auto-save glitch.

No spoilers please!

So I rented a copy of the Last of Us (yes, yes, I know how horrible of me, but money is tight and I need to make sure I would enjoy the game before purchase), and I'm playing through the prologue and I get to the part where Tom, Joel and the girl get into the jeep and then...sound stops, Tom and Joel start sliding out of the car, and then after the car keeps going for a bit the screen starts skipping to black.

After searching online, I found that other people had been having the same issue and no one seems to know what is going on. I've read several different explanations, some about the game having so much information that it makes it difficult to load, some about how if your PS3 is old that it has a hard time keeping up with the game's data, that it's hardware issue, NO it's a software issue, just about everything short of alien's messing with the game.

I tried for hours last night trying to get it to work and nothing, when I tried again this morning I couldn't even get the game to run at all anymore, it simply goes to a black screen and seems to freeze up the PS3.

Anyways, I didn't notice anything like this on the escapist forums (if there is I apologize) so I just was wondering if anyone else was having issues like this and if they'd heard of anything going on. Anybody got any answers?

I've been having this exact same issue. I'm beyond frustrated at this point. I've spent countless hours trying all the various "workarounds", which mainly are just pausing the game and leaving it paused for 20-30 minutes to get another 30 seconds further into the game.

I thought maybe it might be an issue with my disc, so I went and exchanged it at GameStop earlier this morning. Still the exact same bug. I am so disappointed in Naughty Dog for both allowing this bug to go live AND for the fact that they have not had a developer comment on the issue since SATURDAY! Game of the year? More like the most expensive coaster of the year.

For anyone curious, here's a quick YouTube video of the bug in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gV_hUvPq1JE

That sounds really fucking weird. Could it have something to do with the new PS3 update? Apparently it's been frying hard drives, but I don't know if it has anything to do with game performance or not. Did you try another game? Personally have no way of testing myself, I don't even Playstation, just throwing that out there.

Full,

The bug has been occurring since the game went live. I haven't heard about it frying people's hard drives, but I did read that it broke someone's bluray player. As for myself, all other games work perfectly fine. Just having the issue with The Last of Us...

And here's the developer that they had in charge of answering questions on the forum on release day. Four days without any new posts, even to say that they are looking into the issue.

I'd venture a guess on this one. Think it is a bug the developers put in there if it detects the game is pirated?
http://i.imgur.com/Nhsrvoi.jpg Definitely not a pirated copy of the game.

No, this has happened to multiple people going back and getting multiple copies of the game and I, myself, rented it from a redbox. All legitimate purchases. Nothing to do with pirating.

I've honestly found it a little odd that no one seems to be reporting of this issue cause it's a game breaking issue and lots of people are S.O.L. and lost 60+ dollars.

I had the same issue but I was able to fix it. Here are the steps I took (in this order) so hopefully it helps.

1. Delete a bunch of stuff off my hard drive. Rumor on one forum said it had something to do with too much something or another on your hard drive. Didn't make sense but I was desperate! (Did not work)

2. Delete the Data Utility for The Last of Us (NOT your save data; it's at the top of "GAME" in your system's dashboard). It forces the game to re-download the patch. (Did not work)

3. Clean the hell out of the disk. My game got two fingerprints on the outside of the disk (not sure how that happened...). Once I cleaned the disk, I have not run into the problem again.

I hope this helps...

That sounds pretty bad, I just finished playing through the entire game, and I sure haven't run into any issues. I've been hearing a lot about the PS3 update messing things up, if you did the update that could be the problem.

I know this doesn't help your situation much but I have played all the way through the game on an old big 80GB BC model. I say this because I don't think it is an "old hardware" problem. I would do as tippy2k2 suggests going 3,2 ,1 to avoid collateral damage.

I feel bad for tippy as it is as he had massive collateral damage.

It's an issue with the servers, or so I'm inclined to believe the thing I saw on reddit the other day. They're working on it

I don't know how this could be a server issue.. Do you have a link to that reddit post?

Yah! Internet pity points! :D

But good point, I probably should have switched my steps since the steps I took went from worst to easiest based on the info I was able to find online. You should start by looking at the disk first and then going from there

On the plus side however (for my situation that is), the PS3 is my secondary system and therefore there are minimal games and whatnot on it. I didn't trash anything I would miss :)

I have been having the autosave big from day one, I do not have Internet at my house so I do not see how it can be a server issue. I took my system to a friends house so I could d\l the 1.01 patch hoping that would cue the problem...... still having the same issue.

Never had this, but I also don't have a whole lot of stuff on my PS3's hard drive. Sounds like a really nasty glitch though.

I had a different glitch, but it wasn't major. It was just really random. When you escaped from the soldiers in the beginning, Ellie and Tess look over into a gap. I walked on ahead, and then the screen went black. No death animations, but when I walked ahead and pressed L3, the screen went black and I was set back to a previous checkpoint. Never happened again and it didn't set me THAT far back, but it was just weird.

Then again I had a similar weird glitch in that Walking Dead PS3 collection. Talked down a dude from shooting me, I take his gun, and the game informed me I died 0___0. Had a lot of Beyond Good and Evil PS2 glitches where loading screens (particularly the one before the final boss) and audio didn't work. Spyro 2's final boss herped the derp too. I seem to be a magnet for random glitches the past few months. Never got your's though (and I managed to start my game after much of the autosave issues were solved).

Huh. The only glitches The Last Of Us has thrown at me would be my health (And Air) Bars going black, so I couldn't see how much damage I had taken, that didn't fix until I'd rebooted the entire console. Joel sometimes has trouble with ladders if somebody looks at him the wrong way (He'll mount the ladder, spasm a little, float sideways off of the ladder, and repeat for a few seconds until it kicks him off) and sometimes hair would flip out in cut scenes and stretch across the screen.

No game busters for me yet, at least :D I'd be incredibly angry if it ate my survivor playthrough

The only glitches I've run into so far are non-gameplay ones; occasionally my screen will flicker black or blue while trying to load a cutscene before sorting itself out. Thankfully I've not had any game breaking problems and somehow managed to avoid the auto-save bug altogether O_O

Same thing happened to me and my older brother. We both completed the game. So, I wanted to play it again and I got this glitch. I restarted my Ps3 about 5 times and it still didn't work. I am sick of this bullshit. I was really hoping there would be a patch soon that would fix it. I am really pissed, now.
