Okay fellow Escapians. I've recently seen the advertisement for the new Saw movie, I've also seen 3 of the others, and watching the movies there is one thought that sticks in my mind: if a man just talked about these ideas instead of making movies about them, he'd be classed as mentally unstable.

Anyway, what do you think of the Saw movies? I honestly think it's just some sick minded person making money from his ideas.

I liked the idea but do we really need seven of them? I got used to the violence after the first one so it didn't really make me pay attention.

Also, the creator must have a fucking warped mind.

Aren't like all the characters dead now, can't they just let the franchise die with them and come up with something new.

I like the Saw movies. Classifying them as "torture porn" is inaccurate, because they do have a great, twisted, message.

Also, has anyone gotten the Saw game yet? I want to know how good it is.

They aren't good. Original premise, but screws actual horror in favour of over the top gore which isn't scary and then they decide to make fuckloads of sequels in an usually short space of time.

It's basically a Cash Cow franchise.

Am I right to think that 4 and 5 were both made within the same year? I remember seeing both posters up outside my local cinema at the same time.

First one was an interesting concept, I suppose a sequel was justified and to turn it into a trilogy was understandable - but fuck it why did they continue it from there? I mean now it's just torture porn, (yes it is,) with no reason other than to show grusome deaths attached to an increasingly more far-fetched storyline.

Kill the series.

*Checks IMDB*

No, they were released in 2007 and 2008 respectively. They've released one film every year since 2004, so basically they're the film industry's equivalent of FIFA.

Well they are cheap and quick to produce and attract a fairly large audience just on shock value. Practically sell themselves.
The idea got old after the first 2 - 3 though.
