I've went through two 360's. funnily enough neither of them red ringed, I got E-74'ed instead.

the first was after three months, the second broke right out the box, but i found out the place i bought it had packaged an old beat up version as brand new, so i naturally got my money back.

My third is an Elite I got brand new so it would actually last this time.

Kinda ironic, in that I went through all this trouble, and yet I hardly touch the thing anymore. Sad times.

First xbox lasted a year and a half before it started overheating from trying to play RDR. Only RDR. But I had to play that bad boy, and as the slim model had been released I bought that and it's been fine since.

I don't have a 360, but I've lost 2 PS3s to YLoD. I'm just sticking with my PC now. At least if it breaks I can fix it myself.

Somewhere around 9. After my family got the black kinect compatible one it has never broken though. My dad did have to pay for the first repair though.

I had to send mine back after a year and a half because the disc-drive went kaput. Now it's doing it again. So far as I can tell, it's still the same Xbox, though.
I think it red-ringer once, but I turned it off, left it alone for a while and it hasn't happened since.

Still, shoddy consoles. Shame te selection of games is so great.

I had mine red ring when I was playing Fallout 3 and instead of waiting ages to have Microsoft fix it, I just went into town the same day and bought an Xbox Elite and I've never had any problems with it. After that I never touched Fallout 3 for months even though I knew it wasn't the games fault. Personally I think that even if your Xbox is within the warranty or not Microsoft should still fix it. It's a design flaw a mistake they've made and they should fix people's red ringed Xbox's regardless of the warranty.

I've had two, one of the launch 360's that red ringed once and was fixed withing warranty which lasted until a really hot and humid week last year and then died for good. I then had all the excuse I needed to get one of the 250GB slim 360's. If only I was a fatcat again with a well paying job and nothing to spend it on, stupid learning.

Or just not taking care of them :p I always keep my 360 in a well vented area and rarely have a problem.

Lost 1 to red ring, on the second now. If this one dies, I won't be getting another either. Not too eager to go after Microsoft's next system either because of the "made to fail" design.

I bricked one xbox and had another basically brick on me (wouldn't read disks, had to keep ejecting/injecting the disk up to 20 times to get it to play once.) I picked up the new xbox the black one and it's been working for quite a while so far.

but my biggest gripe with xbox's design isn't the failure rate. It's the fact that if you move the console while a disk is spinning your disk is ruined.

Next generation I probably won't buy an xbox unless I'm positive they fixed their issues with their consoles (anyone else remember the original xbox starting fires?)
