So my Bank just screwed me over, again

So I gotta ask. Who do you bank with?

I ask because I have friends that have had similar problems. And by similar problems, I mean banks intentionally screwing them over. How do they do that? Well, they'll hold off on processing deposits until after processing checks. Even if they get the deposit before the date of a check. I've heard far too many horror stories of banks that would normally process a paycheck a day after they receive it, waiting an extra day when a payment was pending on the account. The obvious reason is to make the person overdraft on their account so that they can charge them the additional fees.

Other times it's an asinine action like processing checks before deposits on the same day, but still fining you simply because they processed one before the other.

Wachovia was a terrible one about this sort of thing. My Grandmother on my mom's side used to refer to them as "Walk-all-over-ya" because of how terrible they were. They are now a part of Wells Fargo according to a search I just did.

If your bank is still screwing you over, you might try finding a local bank. They tend to be a lot less dickish about this sort of thing. Likely due to the fact that such banks have fewer customers and can't afford to treat each customer like a criminal.

My bank's really good. Whenever I spend, it immediately removes it from my account, and it works with most online stores. On the other hand, it got rejected for buying a box of popsicles online when I was sad and in a rough patch and too lazy to get some.

For the first time in my 3 years of using the same account for online stuff, Paypal found a way to get passed my bank's overdraft protection that I had with said account...

In less than 3 days, I owed the bank about $156 in overdraft fees... and was lucky enough to only have to play the original amount that caused the overdraft in the first place (which was only about $19), since this was the first time this has happened to me... and, in retrospect, it shouldn't have happened since normally I can never pay for something that goes over the money I have in the account to begin with...

Afterwards, I changed some settings on Paypal, so it shouldn't happen again... (The worse part about this was that I didn't get my usual "You're low on funds" alert beforehand... I could have stopped it sooner than later...)

Ah banks are notorious for making errors not in your favor. Its how they make even more money off you by fines. What a racket, which is why I have stopped using them in favor of reloadable debit cards and money orders and of course cash on hand. Maybe its a bit odd but since I did that I have yet to be hit with fines, screwed by late postings or bounced checks due to bank lag. I've calculated it and almost yearly I pay maybe $20 total for my debit card dues whereas my bank could take from $30 to $300 yearly depending on fines and bullshit.
Add to that I don't borrow money so I don't need credit checks or bank account statements to prove things and I keep paycheck stubs to show my income. Plus the government can't seize cash if I don't put it in a bank account. Not sure about the reloadable cards but then I only use them when I need to pay for things online and netflix.
Maybe I'm a luddite in some ways...

You should have asked your parents to make a direct fund transfer rather than get cash of them and deposit it in a cash machine, those are automated and often go through even if the bank itself is closed or at the very least the early hours of the morning on the first working day, the bank really isn't to blame here but I can appreciate how this is frustrating though.

Cash deposits made at an ATM only go into your account the same day if it is one of the newer machines that do not take an envelope but instead take and count the cash on the spot. If it takes an envelope there is a very good chance that it will not go anywhere till the next business day.

Not sure if that is what went down, but ya.
