If you only had it for 2 years, you can send it in for free. Microsoft covers RROD's for 3 years at no cost.

I was expecting the PC crowd to start whining and I wasn't disappointed! Thank you Escapist for being so painfully predictable.

As to the OP: My 360 red ringed a while ago, just after the 3 year mark. The guy on the phone just told me to send it off anyway and it got repaired. Haven't had a problem since.

Heh, my friend Dave once chucked a tower onto his porch, in the middle of winter, then poured Mountain Dew in the now-visible innards, all because he was playing X-Com and he kept BSOD'ing.
The best part? After the rage died down, he brought it inside, hit it with the blow-dryer, and bingo, it worked perfectly. No more BSOD.
Good sir, that sounds *awesome*! Either your friend's a genius or his PC's "unbreakable".

I like to think it was a little from column A, little from column B.

Last I went up to visit (He lives in Indiana now, faaaaaar away), it was still running. He lets his littler kids play games on it and stuff and it still worked.

I bring up the story everytime I see it.

Luckily, I've not had any problem with any console. All of mine still work. Even down to the NES thats only a few months older than I am.

Wow. That thing has been working for nearly 23 years..

Well after my PS3 died for the second time (faulty BluRay drive and now it just YLOD), I thought screw Sony! I'm not spending another $315 on getting it fixed again. So I went out and spent $600 upgrading my PC and then another $89 on a PC copy of MW2.
After about a week I ended up calling PS Support to see what I could do with my now expensive paper weight and they said they'd FIX IT FOR FREE! If only I'd called them first I would have saved all that cash!!

On the plus side I now have a perfectly good PS3 again and a sick PC.
This post made me lulz

but yea least you got 2 gaming platforms now :)

I think the only gaming tragedy I ever had to go through was last year when my room flooded from a faulty sump and terrible street cleaning of leaves from the fall. The sewer was blocked and unfortunately I live in a bit of a valley, so all the water came rushing down to the house. It also was subject to clogging because of some sticks and leaves that made it into the sump. That meant when I went to go take a leak at around five in the morning, I was ankle deep in negative degree (celcius) run-off water from the rain outside. What a pleasent surprise!

As for how this involves gaming, my first ever pruchased piece of gaming technology was ruined. It was a blue N64 controller, including the save pak that I had bought a few months later for it (also purchased with my own money). It was horrifying to know all my hard work on games such as Perfect Dark (I never got Rank 1, but I was soooo close!), Gauntlet Legends (maxed everything, including experience) and other such memorable games. My sweet, sweet Blueie, how you shall be missed =(

Mine died after I started to play F3, I got to play for about 10 hours (not straight) and then it bailed on me. I really liked F3 :(

Oh, I forgot about the time I dropped my original Gameboy down a mountain.

I was visiting friends up at Appalachian State in Boone, NC, when my friend Mike suggests we go do some hiking. So, we drive out to a local hiking spot and start making our way up the mountain.

I was rocking some Super Mario Land on my Gameboy, following the sounds of my friends voices, when I lost my footing and slipped.

Out of my hands goes the little gray box that had brought me so much joy. Down the mountain it goes, tumbling end over end in quite a fantastic aerial display.

I could still hear the 8-bit tune coming out of it before it hit the mountainside the first time. After that, it was all shrapnel and sad faces.

I wanted to go find its remains and give them a proper burial, but alas, there was no way of finding it in the sea of flora in the canyon below.

Cat fried my PS2 with pheromones, it would stop receiving power when you closed the Disc Tray, making it completely Useless.

Anyways, I suggest the Whole Warranty thing, and look for that Wii while it's getting Fixed/Replaced/Reversed-Aged to a point in time before it Red Ringed.
So your PS2 got Cheesed? Did it get to bathe with that chick with the huge melons?

My ps2 still works fine with every single game but God of War 2.

My video card died on me a few years back, got a shitty replacement one for it. Since then I've been too poor to afford a newer one. Everything on my computer is fairly up-to-date, but because my video card died I can't play any of the newer games on it. Those I can play are restricted to minimum settings, and even then my computer has to strain.

I could go get a job and get an entirely new computer I supposed. However I'm incredibly lazy, as well as unmotivated. I'll just wait untill I'm settled and on my own before I get a good gaming computer. I'm stuck with consoles as a result, which I suppose isn't that bad, but I miss the PC gaming experience.

I'm pretty sure that microsoft will fix RROD if you've had it less than 3 years. So you should be able to find the information on what to do with it/who to talk to/where to send it on the xbox website.
You may be without your xbox for a ridiculously long time though, my boyfriend sent his off and it took him a month to get it back. They did give him a free month of XBL to compensate for the month he'd lost.

I finally got The Sims 2 working and my laptop now point blank refuses to read discs. So I thought hmmm maybe I'll try runescape to kill some boredom, my laptop is so incredibly that it cannot run runescape without it lagging my laptop.

That happened to me too for the first time quite recently. Just send it to Microsoft for free repairs. Just don't forget to remove the hard disk drive, I got an entirely new console back. I also got some free Xbox Live Gold time.

Hello Escapist's, If you haden't geussed already from the title my Xbox 360 has finally red ringed on me, after around 2 years of problemless service the old boy has finally keeled over, and just as i get my hands back on Fallout 3.

So, with my 360 dead, my PS3 lent out, My Wii lost somewhere, a leg that feels like it's going to give up everytime i walk, and no money it seems I'll be playing quite a few more games of TF2...

But enough of my woes and pointless issues, i'm curious about YOU Escapist's, and Escapee's, What is one of the worst situations you've been in related to your consoles/ or just gameing period.

Also, brownie points if you can give me any information on what to do with my now dead console.
Well, me and a friend of mine accidentally mixed our xbox power cables, and we had top send them back to each other. Unfortunately, my cables arrived AFTER I had already left for university, so I was without a console for the entire first term. Hell. On. Earth.

And if your console is dead, try and see if you can really fry an egg on it! You'd at least get some entertainment, (if not food) out of it
