Aww, people give Lair a lot of slack :) Lair can be rather fun at the best of times, what cripples it and makes it not fun is the controls, but if it wasn't for the controls Lair would be okay.
I absolutely hated it with the motion controls, but they released that patch with new dragons and analogue controls, when I played it then I found it a pretty fun game and actually wouldn't mind a second as long as they don't force motion controls on users again.

Demon's Souls is a must, absolutely love that game.

Hey dude, firstly go say thanks to your dad again for getting the ps3, a lot of ppl's dads dont just bring them home! He sounds like a really nice pops! Make sure u get an HD cable, sony are gay and dont give one free!
Anyways Ill list the games I'v bought with a good bad

God of War 3 - so good its the only game iv ever finished and played again on hardest difficulty! Problem is it's bad morel compus but your a loser if you care about that anyway, its a game, just have some fun =)

Madden 11 (returned) - This was the biggest disapointment of my life, I started madden 07 on pc and because it was so good learned all the rules and regulations in the NFL from the game even though it doesn't have a tutorial, Madden 11 on the other had doesn't even have a real become a superstar mode! I hate this game and it's put me off football which I love! People will call me stupid for this not liking this game but it just has too many little flaws to make it a complete game, its like they released it too early!

Demon Soul's (returned) - Being hard doesn't mean being fun. Also very slow start and its one of those, don't explain much rpg's which works but not when the game is this hard! Watch the zero punctuation review, its actually close to correct.

White knight chronicals - I've only kept this game because I support the team that designed it for try to make a game that is actually some what original and has a story with actually depth (as long as you look past the over the top character design!) Its game play is also fun if you like rpg's/adventures. Just get past the begining cause the story gets deeper the furthur you get into it.

Modern warfare 2 - Really good, I havent got black ops and don't know anything about it but I heard someone say it was the poor man's modern warfare 2! Lol, dont know if thats true but MW 2 is really fun and the champaign is so fun it made me think the game was really short but its not, can't wait to replay it!

Split second - Simply the best racing game I'v ever played. The cars are B E A utiful, the level designs are fun to play every time, if you have a bro or sis its really fun split screen. Its just a great game all round, I recommend this the most out of any game in the shops right now! And I dont even like racing games that much!

Red Dead Redemption - Its fun to be a cowboy! In this game thanks to the amazing environment, voice acting, weapons, horses, lasso's, characters and mood music you actually become one, its great!

Little big planet - As good as everyone says, just get it, its better played than explains, because its original. Just get it =) You'll see =)

Good luck with your ps3, treat it as part of your family, it can give you untold hours of fun =)

Uncharted 2. Seriously. If you don't have Uncharted 2, you're wasting your time with a PS3. It's a must have.

Also, Heavy Rain if you're more into anti-gaming. Um, inFamous was pretty fun, but it's only good for playing through twice. Metal Gear Solid 4 if you've played and beaten the first 3. Otherwise you'll be mad lost. LittleBigPlanet is an absolute blast if you're playing with friends, but kind of boring if you're playing alone. Uh Resistance is pretty good for co-op. I've also got Valkyria Chronicles. I only just started it, and it's a lot of fun when you actually do get to control the game, but the English dubs are so atrocious and for every battle there are three cutscenes. The artwork is beautiful, though. Oh yeah, and there's Ninja Gaiden Sigma. It's alright, but it's cheap.

Oh yeah, if you get Uncharted 1, get it and beat it before you play Uncharted 2. I started on it after I had already beaten Uncharted 2 and the gameplay feels sticky compared to it.

And Flower is good if you're a little girl want to have a nice chill game.

Uncharted
Uncharted 2
Heavy Rain
MAG (only if you like these sorts of games, it has a steep learning curve, but is fun once you learn it)
Killzone 2
Dead Nation
God of War 3
Little Big Planet
Infamous
Demon Souls
Metal Gear Solid 4
The FF collection on PSN (7,8 & 9)
Populous the Beginning
Abe's Oddysee

And quite a few more, but none are popping into my head at the moment.

Note that the sequel to many of these series are due to be released. Uncharted 3 and Killzone 3 are just two of those.

There are plenty of choices for PS3, just depends on what sort of games you're into.

I'm not sure how many people still play Warhawk, but that was a damn fun game to play as well :D
He pretty much summed everything up.

As for games to stay away from, Lair (as someone else said), Genji, and Haze...among others.

Heavy Rain for a buy.

God of War III for a rent, not worth a buy.

Stay away from Metal Gear solid 4....stick with 3, I likes that one.
Do not listen to this man, those games are worth a try and at least IMO, worth buying.
Metal Gear Solid for the PS is available for download as well, it's a bit dated but still good. Also, if you ever get in your head that you want to try motion control, go with the Move. Vastly superior to the Wii, and does SOME things Kinect can't due to a control stick and buttons. And it's going to have some more mature games like Killzone 3, as well as downloadable support for existing titles.

Agreed on all accounts bar Killzone 2, maybe it's just me, but I found the controls to be far too clunky and ham-handed to allow the game to be of any real enjoyment to me, holding L2 to stay in cover, whatever button it is to pop out, another button to aim and another to shoot did not feel like intuitive control layout to me.

But that's just me, I can attest to every other game on that list being god damn incredible.

Early Christmas this year, I guess. Anyway, my question is, what are some great PS3 or PSN exclusives that are really worth getting? Can be new games or older games. Or, alternatively, what PS3 games should I stay far, far away from?
inFamous, Metal Gear solid 4, Littlebigplanet, Resistance 2 and Yakuza 3 are must buys.
great games. Also Vanquish is quite fun.
-Tabs<3-
-edit- Also Demons Souls and Folklore.

I am going to add Borderlands while agreeing with Uncharted and Little Big Planet. Those are the three I own that I want everyone to enjoy.

Stay far, far away from Lair. Far away. And on PSN, stay away from Super Rub-a-dub.

Uh, Sly Collection, Uncharted series, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance series if you're an FPS fan, InFamous, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time. You're not without quality games, but Ratchet and InFamous are open world platformers, and Uncharted is a third person action series.

Check em out, see what you like.

Was more stimulating than Haze, thats for sure, Haze bored me into oblivion, not to mention bug infested, heck, I opened the case and bugs crawled out.
Give me one example of a bug in that game. First time i played and subsequent playthroughs I've never had any issues.
the gameplay was a little repetitive sure but the overall plot was quite interesting. especially the twist at the end.
