My Xbox360 gave me the dreaded red ring of death today. I'm surprised it lasted this long, since I bought it back when 360s first came out. So it lasted what... 5 years? After leaving it alone for a while it appears to be in working order again, but my question is, how many of you still have a working first gen 360?

Ours literally red ringed about a week ago. It's quite sad that a piece of todays tech can break after 5 years and we think 'Wow, that had a good run'.

When MS stops making 360's and people want to keep playing their game library, or hell, when they want to sell their games on to others, there's not much you could do. The 360 games are gonna be useless within 10 years of ceased console production!

Mine red ringed last year and I think I only had it for maybe a year or two before it went kaput. I got it repaired and it works just fine though I don't really play it as much as I used to.

Strangely enough, I do have a First Gen Xbox360 and once it Red Ringed a month ago or so, I just put the power cable in and out, and it was working again.

Still, it was quite cool to finally see it, and to MAYBE, just MAYBE understand what all the bitching and moaning was about.
(But I've had it for around 2 years soon)

lol @ the first five posts not answering the OT question.

He asked us how many of us currently had a 1st gen console, not "please use this space to tell us about your XBox 360 experience."

OT: I do, i think its because i install and play virtually every game off the HD. Im thinking about stepping it up to the slim version soon, though.

I have a first gen, it RRoD about 2 years ago, but luckily they had extended the warranty for the problem so they fixed it and added 3 months of extra warranty to it, 2 and half months later the mother board went, lucky really that it was covered . Has worked fine since then.

Sometimes it RRod's due to a power surge. Your mate might of experienced that instead of a hardware failure.
