So Pokemon... Where to next?

Recently, there have been some videos floating around the internet of all the cool things people are doing in Unreal 4, one of those things was a fully 3D HD Pokemon rendering. My question then to you guys is where do you want Pokemon to go next? Do you want a fully 3D Pokemon with dynamic environments and realistic graphics? Or do you maybe think that's a bit too far off base for the franchise. Recently they've been leaning towards the former when they aren't releasing the old games with another word on the end so who knows what is actually going to happen but hey, lets hear from you guys.

An MMO. It's probably never going to happen, but it should. Everyone's wanted one forever.

Probably what's going to happen to the main series is going to stay largely the same while getting prettier graphics to do the same thing as always.

We probably will get an MMO eventually, but I'm willing to bet it'll be farmed out to a Korean company and be hopelessly broken, while also being filled with bugs that the dev will never fix.

As much as I'd like to see an MMO, it really shouldn't happen. It won't live up to the expectations that we've set for it already. It won't work if they instance it and keep only a set amount of people running about the world because it'd be too barren. Then if we did let people roam free we have to worry about balancing, no need for high level trainers running about harassing the low level ones. Also how would we take the legendary Pokemon into this setting?

If they did do an MMO, I'd say that it'd have to be like every game into one. So you pick which region you wish to start in, and you must play through the entirety of that region in order to say move to another. Defeat the elite four of your region, perhaps some end game questing to get you ready to travel. An then it lets you move but you have to leave your initial party of pokemon behind and start all over. But then perhaps we throw in the stadium islands. Go there and you can use all your pokemon collected from each region.

I would like them to ditched the turn based battle in favour of real time battle like the cartoon. No I'm not saying they should also ditch the statergies behind it, more like you have to think about your movement and timing of your attack than to button mash all the time!

In saying so I know this won't happened on the 3DS (think of all the Pokemom, moves but times all of that with the movements and attack animation!).

A remake of Snap for the DS with full accelerometer integration? So it actually feels like you are looking through the view of a camera and taking pics of your favourite Pokemon...?

Have you seen the models and fights in the new Arcade PokkenTournament thing?!?!
Take that there, make the world(s) big and have a freaking MMO already!
I don't care if it is a single pokemon or a trainer that you play as, but I need one of these already :D

Pokemon Z (maybe?)
Pokemon Snap on the 3DS
Then a remake of Diamond and Pearl
Then wait for Nintendo to release a new portable system and start working on making Gen VII prettier and bigger than X/Y

For specific requests, I would like to see dual battles made something that you can turn on or off. If it's on, anytime two trainers with more than 1 Pokemon each will have a dual battle. This became slightly less obvious in X/Y but looking back I think the strategic potential they've created in these games would be greater if a super-effective attack (or sometimes even a strong normal attack) nearly always one-hit-killed even between two Pokemon of the same level. Finally, better character appearance customization, including the clothes used by the generic trainers like Bug Catchers, Hikers and Gentlemen.

A fully 3D game... on console. Promise me that and I'll buy my first Nintendo home console since the SNES, purely on spec.

They really should do a full 3D Pokémon game on the NX.

Bigger and better than Colosseum and XD, make the world vibrant and explorable with big forests and not-so-clear paths, oceans that you have to swim across and mountains you have to climb and keep the turn based battles (they have a quiet charm these days)

If Square can remake FF7, Nintendo can pull this one out on the NX. If they gave us this on launch along with Dragon Quest XI and Zelda, it would go down as the greatest launch in Nintendo's history

I see this suggestion happening all the time and it forgets some of the simple problems that would offer, ie. that speed would become a win-all stat with the only moves people would use being area of attack.

If you want an example of what you just said, play the "pokemon Rumble" series, it's pretty much exactly what you mentioned.

They really should do a full 3D Pokémon game on the NX.
The handhelds have gotten to the point where they ARE fully 3D now, or do you just mean "make prettier graphics".

Where to next? End the series or alternatively place it on hiatus whilst something new gets made.

Well... Ash goes to a new region, gets a new crew to roll with, reference the previous regions/seasons just to save canon face, and the rest is mostly filler with a side of Pokemon-based development... Also, go Team Rocket!

Other than that, allow me to shout my commands to my Pokemon, even if it's not the move's actual name per se like in the anime...

People want a Pokemon MMO?
People want the series to change to real-time battles?

Well ffffuuuuuuuuckk that.

If it's anything that isn't a gen 4 remake, I want the battles to not take place in generic arenas the trainers get teleported into after a fancy transition - I want the battle to start immediately a trainer finishes talking to you, like all the camera does is zoom into the overworld and BAM, you're battling. The arena would match exactly where the player and opponent were in the overworld, but more detailed.

A Diamond/Pearl remake will obviously be coming next gen, given the pattern of releases so far. Aside from that, I'd like to see them take advantage of whatever extra power the next handheld can offer and go for broke on a locale modeled on Africa, with desert, plain, and jungle locations, instead of the usual collection of temperate meadows and woods we normally get.

Full-scale world.
All regions included.
*Real-time battles akin to the show.
Online multiplayer.

*Optional.

Pokémon Stadium with VR compatibility. I think it'd be pretty cool if they could make the battles more fluid instead of one action for physical attack and one for special attack.

But there is online multiplayer, and it's one of the biggest draws for many players these days. Unless you meant that continuing to have a robust online feature is essential, in which case I agree with you.

OT: I'm definitely against realistic graphics, a lot of Pokemon themselves would lose a lot of their charm if they were more realistic looking. I think the games currently have the perfect art style for the series.

I'm also not opposed to real time battles, but I would want a game separate from the main series RPGs to do that. The battle system in Pokemon has become too deep to just trash it for whole new play style. The metagame would disappear in an instant, turning off a lot of fans. I personally feel turn based combat still has a place in modern RPGs, Pokemon especially.

you mean beside the typical "Pokemon Stadium, real time combat, all regions, open world, only First Gen, MMO, etc, etc" that comes in as inevitably as the tides while also doing something that would LEGITIMATELY bring something innovative to the formula?

-Thinks-

Nah, I got nothin'. When you get down to it, Pokemon is pretty much perfectly structured which is why it has included the same structure for decades now. If it ain't broke, don't fix it and all that.
