So PSN is down, again.

Yes folk we all remember last Christmas and the 3 - 5 days that all those lucky folk who got new Playstations couldn't actually use them because PSN, as well as XBox Live were under attack by Lizard Squad. I bet many who got PS4s this year were secretly relieved that the console and PSN seems to have actually worked and so far had very little issue...

Lol, well don't count your chickens folks because PSN is down, in fact it has been down since early this afternoon, that's some 12hours now and here's the kicker Sony have given no info about why it is down beyond a generic it is under maintenance message or error code popping up when you attempt to log in.

A quick look at the PSN status page gives red for all services

As you can imagine many PSN users are taking to social network wondering, pleading, and raging about why this paid for service is being run by a bunch of chimps

I was looking forward to playing some GTA5 with some mates tonight but that plan went out the window and while PSN being down YET AGAIN, is annoying the lack of info coming from Sony is the thing that annoys me the most, end of the day we are paying customers, paying for a service that was FREE last gen and not really getting a great level of service as a result.

Back in my day we used to have to send Ghostcrawler death threats before they would turn the servers back on. Used to be that you had to add +12 hours to any weekly maintenance estimate they provided.

Mm, I noticed that, actually thought it was routine maintenance, now it's more than that.
Anyway.
Maybe or maybe not related, my PS4 is also getting it's *ss kicked by the simple request to play video games offline.
Assassin's Creed Syndicate freezes part way through loading and DMC Remastered won't even reach the main menu.

Check again, shows green across the board. I just got offline a moment ago, and the store is working as well.

Not sure what the deal was. Whether or not this was a "problem", or if Sony will just slag it off as Maintenance. Seems to be working fine now though.

Do all current gen console require internet do play games or just some? Even offline?

No, it varies from game to game.

As far as I know the system doesn't require you to be online, but some games *cough* anything from ubisoft * cough cough* tend to freak out if they think they've been denied access to your facebook app for more than 5 minutes, or whatever these SINGLE PLAYER games do with an internet connection.

I don't have many PS4 games (mostly a PC gamer) but all the ones I do have work totally fine offline.

And before you mention it, yes we have steam but in my defense I don't use it.

Which at least has an excellent offline mode. Though that doesn't stop certain games from whining about needing to be online, but that's the game's fault.

Outages like these only reaffirm my desire that every single-player game should be perfectly playable offline without any additional hassle.
