Their credit got downgraded because they're finical future doesn't look so promising as in they might not make a profit this year. Hopefully the the PS4 and Play Station Now work out because not to many people are buying their TV's, Smart Phones, or the VITA. Maybe Sony can make some money in China with the Console ban lifted. The VITA TV seems like a pretty cheap console closer to budget of a Chinese Consumer who might not be able to afford a PS4 or X1.

Really I think Sony should just get out of the Television business because it's quite obvious that Samsung pretty much has stolen their once nearly unchallenged rule on televisions, which is ironic because it's like how Sony helped end Nintendo dominance on home consoles with the Playstation. Plus I sorta want them to give the rights to Spiderman and the X-men back to Marvel...please...I kinda want them fully back to Marvel Sony. >.>

As for the rating, I say that Sony will still survive because they still have insurance as their trump card, and also note that the rating company had a hand of the economic failure back in 2008 as they kept giving false ratings for borrowing money.

The ride never ends

These threads (a company does somewhat poor for a short duration of time therefore its finished and vice-versa with them doing well meaning that it has complete monopoly over the market) really need to end. Just before posting anything just think about how all of them have been through worse and better and 10 years latter nothing really changed that much

Fox has the rights to X-men. Fox should keep it. I want to see how X-men Days of future past turns out because it might be the only answer to avengers since Warner Brothers can't figure out how to make a Justice League Movie. Warner Brothers owns all the rights to their DC charters the Justice league movie should've been out before the Avengers.

I'm pretty sure Sony haven't had a worse period than this, and 5 years of problems isn't really short either.

Sony are in trouble as a company and it's going to take something special to get them out of it. Unfortunately this news makes it harder for them, because they'd already burned through their cash pile and some of their assets recently and now it's harder to get decent loans too.

They aren't doomed though and the situation is turn aroundable. The PS4 is also absolutely safe, they've already put the initial investment in and we're into reaping the rewards territory. There was some danger that Sony couldn't afford to subsidise prices but the way the PS4 has been selling it looks like they don't really need to.

The worst case scenario is someone buys up Sony's game division or it gets spun off into it's own company. And it would still receive it's third-party titles and a lot of it's support (something like Playstation Now might fail and the interaction between SOE and the playstation division might suffer a little), but really the only problem is that it might change the direction of management a little. Sony might refocus on shooters or ditch some of the more out there studios (like Media Molecule and Quantic Dream). This would suck for the people invested in those things, but it's a pretty minor level of suckage

Pretty much.

The old dog got beaten by a young pup.

I wouldn't know if Sony could just get out of the TV business though. I don't know how big that division is compared their game or movie division, but despite the shape it's in I'm sure it's pretty damn sizeable. I don't think they have any other option than to just keep going and simply deal with the stench.

I guess competition is a *****. Stale, mediocre products at high prices don't sell. This isn't surprising.

Samsung and LG make better TVs at the same price.

Saumsung, Viewsonic, Asus, BenQ, and LG all make better PC monitors for cheaper. Though BenQ has some duds in their product line (IMO).

Sennheiser makes far, far better headphones in the same price range, and Audio Technica makes better headphones at like half the cost. I have a $100 of Sony studio monitors but the $70 ATH-M40's are better in every conceivable way.

Denon and Yamaha make the best home receivers on the market. Even cheap chinese brands like Onyo trounce Sony's offerings.

Their home hi-fi options are awful. However, the hi-fi market is an odd one. There are lots of awesome boutique brands around that make great products. For example, I've yet to see a Sony speaker system that can rival an equally priced Paradigm speaker system.

Seeing as it's because of Nintendo going behind Sony that they actually entered the console game in the first place, I don't think that'd be the best partnership ever. That'd be like Microsoft and Apple making an operating system together. XD

Bad Example bill gates bought part of apple to stop them from going bankrupt to keep competition going.

Edit: It looks like Microsoft bought part of apple because some weird Law suit settlement. Apple had sued Microsoft for stealing there GUI but and this happened(I'm copying and pasting from wiki) "In 1997, three years after the lawsuit was decided, all lingering infringement questions against Microsoft regarding the Lisa and Macintosh GUI as well as Apple's "QuickTime piracy" lawsuit against Microsoft were settled in direct negotiations. Apple agreed to make Internet Explorer their default browser, to the detriment of Netscape. Microsoft agreed to continue developing Microsoft Office and other software for the Mac over the next five years. Microsoft also purchased $150 million of nonvoting Apple stock. Both parties entered into a patent cross-licensing agreement.[11][12]"

My point at that was that they wouldn't work together at all, it was just an example. Sony and Nintendo working together again isn't something that would happen or go over to well to be honest.
