Hello everybody.
This is gonna be a long post so when you don't want to read everything:
What i want to know is: Any Spellforce fans here?
So yesterday the new Spellforce game Faith in Destiny got released after nordic games got the rights when jowood went down. While the game is actually fun, the reaction to me was mostly thinking about how good the other spellforce games were.
I played the Spellforce games right from the Start of the first game. Back then, the graphics were stunning (At least to me) and the gameplay was really good. The RTS genre is not greatly known for innovation, but Spellforce had it. The Combination of Roleplaying and RTS worked great and made you care about nearly every character and the Click and Fight model worked REALLY well, don't know why nobody else did it. On top of that the Story was really good and while the game, exspecially the expansion packs, was sometimes quite difficult it was a huge amount of fun.
When Spellforce 2 was announced i, again, was amazed by the graphics and the gameplay was again really fun.
The game got a little bit simple in a lot of aspects, but i didn't mind. The simplified base building was still much fun and allowed for a multiplayer component, which would have been very difficult in Spellforce 1.
The Story was, in my opinion, even better than the first.
Dragon Storm was also really good.
Now comes Faith in Destiny. It is still a good game, but it's not nearly as good as Spellforce 2 and Dragon Storm. Sometimes the developers tried to make a point, which just seems weird in the way they present it.
One example:
In one mission you have to fight your way to an elven village. Once you enter the village, it gets attacked and you have to help fending the offenders off. And by help i mean do it all by yourself.
The elfes themself don't attack the enemy, they just stand there ant let the enemys cut them down. I thought i discovered a severe bug. After the fight it turns out: The elves lost all hope and don't want to fight. So they don't fight. It just seems so stupid while you play. In Spellforce 2 there was a similar mission, where the elves lost hope, but in that scenario, the enemy didn't kill them and just fed on their life energy. They didn't actually die.
Here they do and they still just stand there and do nothing.
Then again the game is still fun to play. The cutscenes and dialogues don't have the same quality, everythings seems a lot less polished and round than it was before, but then again, what do you espect when EA buys of the developer that made the franchise and let's them work on F***ing browsergames.
So the Question: Any Spellforce fans here, anyone bought the new one yet?
