So I've been sat here thinking I'm 18 soon and I've been thinking of getting a tattoo. What I'm wondering is what are peoples thought on tattoo's here at the escapist and do you have any tattoos or will you get any when the time comes?

I considered of getting one for some time, but eventually I discarded the Idea. I am not sure why, I just lost interest.

I've only thought of one tatto that I don't think theres a possibility that I would regret in the future and that would be a tattoo of a world map on my back, with countries that I had been to coloured in. Unlike a lot of tattoo's I see, it would be tasteful, and would have a deeper meaning.
Also it would be easy to cover up, in case there came a point I decided I didn't like it or I needed to go to an interview. As my wise mum said, you never see Doctors or Lawyers with tattoos.

I have decided however that at the moment it would look a bit bare, so I am going to wait until I have visited a few more places before getting it. Which will give me time to consider.

If the tattoo is well done I like it but, when someone gets way to inked up its highly unattractive so just know there is a time to stop getting tattoos.

That's a clever idea, I'd never have that because I don't think I'm going to visit that many places in my life so it'll just be a map.

well... if your a big maiden fan, and play guitar, then go for it.
A tattoo is a personal thing, in the end its you that has to decide weather to get one or not.
Personally, i plan on being (almost) covered... got 4 sleeve sessions booked in already.
ps: at least get a decent artist to do it... Guitars are easy to screw up.

I've been considering getting
on my left arm for some time. I'm still on the fence about something so permanent, although I do like the idea.

I'm not always a big fan of tattoos, some can be good and some can be downright stupid. Basically, the right tattoo on the right person is great, so long as there aren't too many tattoos on one person.

Thats a good tattoo, but replace the guitar with the Pyro's axestingusher, and you have my approval ;)

I'm okay with them as long as they're not too complicated. Simplicity is the way to go.

tattoos are a waste. I have seen people regret getting a tattoo. Remember this, are you sure you will want to keep that for the rest of your life?

Dont worry about whats written on your body, because its whats written on your soul thats remembered.

I have no tattoos. They are one of those things that look good during a single meeting with one person, but would get a little wearing over a whole lifetime.

It's like having the same desktop wallpaper for 60 years. You'd get bored of it.

I'm not keen on tattoo's and I have never considered getting one either. For me, they require too much effort because you have to keep them topped up every so often (at least thats what I heard). My grandfather has two tattoo's that he acquired when he was in the army and he has regretted it ever since, not to mention that now they look absolutely terrible.

I have a few tat's so far and have a great idea for my next tattoo. I'm going to have to find a really good artist for it though, possibly looking at a trip of about 100 miles to visit the guy who did a few of my friends that have some of the best shading i've ever seen.

I would advise against getting one with something like a band name, for the same reason its silly to get one of a girlfriends name. No matter what you think at the moment, its conceivable that at some point in your remaining 60 or so years on this planet that you may lose interest in Iron Maiden. Remember that "Nothing lasts forever" is an ironic tattoo.

Don't get one that can't be covered up, nothing on your hands, arms, legs or face. If you want even a semi-respectable career, visible tattoos are a big no. Similarly, anything that you think might be difficult to explain to a loved one.

having a low threshold to pain and a general fear of needles, no. I don't plan on being tattooed though if I ever did get any, I had a plan for how I wanted my body to be laid out:

My left forearm would have this:

My back would have the four animals of...uh...I don't remember what the hell they represent now. Chinese Zodiac? No, 4 is too few...anyway, it would have been the Phoenix on/below the left shoulder blade, Ginbu [giant Tortoise] on/below the right shoulder blade, A phoenix beneath them with it's wings overlapping their underside and, an Asian dragon above them coiling around my shoulders somewhat. My right arm would have a more European Dragon on it somewhere.
