So tell me about Persona 5

Junpei is an envious asshole and Yukari a self centered whiny *****. There is absolutely very little likeable about the P3 cast.

Junpei is an incredibly multi-dimensional character. The fact that you just dismiss him as an asshole makes me wonder whether you played much of the game at all. I'll admit, I really didn't like him when I first started playing the game; he seemed like just the token comic-relief character and indeed a bit of an asshole to boot. The little falling out he has with the main character early on certainly didn't help his case. But then he apologizes and eventually you actually start to get to know him and his actions make sense. Then the whole Chidori arc happens and he becomes one of the best video game characters ever, in my opinion. He's not perfect. He's a struggling teenager, with a bit of an inferiority complex, but he turns out to be a brave friend.

I've played P3 and like his development, but there's nothing really that likeable to me about the characters in P3. I feel like he was one of the better developed characters in P3, whereas a lot of the other characters (e.g. Aegis) only really become interesting characters like 50 hours in.

To me, Persona (along with SMT games in general), has the collecting aspect of pokemon, but less grindy, with amazing stories, characters, and soundtrack. I feel it's the pokemon we've wanted to a degree.

I won't go into the P3 v P4 debate (I'm heavily biased towards P4). Both games are great in their own right. P3 is better to play first, not just because of improvements P4 made (I played P4 first by the way), but P3 allowed you to start things a bit faster. Persona 4 took a few hours before getting to dungeon stuff, while P3 had you starting the fight stuff pretty quickly.

You'll probably have a preference towards one game from tone, but because of the music as well. P3 had a rap and jazz thing going for it, while P4 had more J-pop stuff. I liked both soundtracks, cause I think both were well done, but if you have a huge preference of style, that could shape things.

If you like both games like me, then Persona Q would then be good.

Good thing I like both the sounds of that, im in along with picking up this new persona when it comes out for the old PS4

If its anything like Persona 4 (or Golden), very little knowledge is needed.

But judging from how Persona 4 references minor events from Persona 3 occasionally, at least playing P4 would be the best.
