So the new Dungeon Keeper is out.. (fans, prepare to die inside)

So the good news? I guess Dungeon Keeper isn't completely lost in EA's ever growing graveyard of once fantastic franchises and developers (you will be forever missed, Westwood)

Now for the bad news; it's a mobile game, It's free to play, and it has play limits a la Clash of Clans (it is basically a Clash of Clans ripoff by the looks of it). And it doesn't even remotely look like the classic DK games. Photographic evidence ahoy!:

Now I've grown quite desensitized to EA's dick moves, but this? I freaking hope they win a golden poo award every year until they finally close their doors, resurrecting a much loved franchise only to horribly abuse it like this should be illegal.

Thoughts on this guys? Anyone got a chance to try it yet?

Pfft. Where were you when Ultima Forever was announced? In all honesty, Dungeon Keeper was always a bit naff. And I say this as someone who was salivating for the first one from the moment it was announced. Like all things Molyneux and Bullfrog, it's a series that never even came remotely close to living up to its potential.

But yes, this is atrocious, and I do feel for Dungeon Keeper fans, whether I share their enthusiasm for the original games or not.

Reminds me of this:

Sure, this is lampooning Activision, but the same sentiment applies.

I mean I think it's been universally accepted that every Dungeon Keeper-esque game released after the second one is awful. Not awful 'compared to the old games' or something similar. Just awful.

Plus since the brand is owned by EA this comes as no surprise.

EDIT: Alright, I guess I need to clarify. Dungeon Keeper-esque in setting, not mechanics.

Wow, 3 hours and 59 minutes left to dig out a single tile, or pay up? Do mobile gamers really put up with this sort of crap?

I think they do sadly, practically every second free to play mobile game I hear about has some sort of energy meter or whatever that stops you dead in your tracks after a certain amount of uses (and you are of coursed forced to use it), forcing you to pay to continue.

What do you expect? This is EA we are talking about.

On the bright side my EA boycott is getting even easier with each new release by them.

Speaking as a DK fan, this [http://nooooooooooooooo.com/] relays my feelings rather well. Well, guess it's back to the classic DK, or Overlord, or Evil Genius, or Ghost Master if I want to be a beard-and-kitten-stroking villanous mastermind.

Hey man get with the times, if Xbox One taught us anything it's that microtransactions are the real next gen.
No longer will you wonder if devs get enough cash for their work, no longer play in despair if someone is even funding the sequels, no my friend those dark days are over, open your wallets and embrace the future!

I had no idea they were even making this.

EA really has no respect for these old IPs. Anything with any form of a nostalgia factor will just keep getting this kind of treatment, alienate the fanbase and be an utter failure. After which EA will look at the numbers and say, "Well, I guess nobody really wanted another -insert old IP here-.", and prompty bury said franchise in a shallow grave in case they feel like digging it up 10 years down the line.

Not surprising in the least, I don't see why anyone expected a mobile cash-in to be anything less than, well, a mobile cash-in on the franchise one time popularity. Fortunately there's a game called War For The Overworld which is looking to be a nice spiritual successor to the Dungeon Keeper franchise, although I do think it looks to lack a bit of the sense of humour which made Dungeon Keeper so memorable.

Otherwise there's always Dwarf Fortress.

Well, that one came out of nowhere. I'd be more annoyed by this announcement, but I've been following War For The Overworld, which looks quite appealing so far. I became interested in the project when I found out that Richard Ridings, the voice actor for the mentor ("Your dungeon is full of yoghurt") had joined. So if anybody feels particularly heartbroken by this latest turn of events, I'd say you could do worse than have a look at what's going on over there.

Well, I'd rather have a Dungeon Keeper game in spirit only over one in name only.

Thankfully [a href=https://wftogame.com/]War For the Overworld[/a] fits that perfectly.

I'm surprised more people aren't mentioning this. Stop giving this pathetic game advertising, and let's focus on WFTO instead.
Yes, let us do that;

THIS, is Dungeon Keeper, not that, thing, the OP was talking about. Let us never speak of that abomination again.

False. Everyone loves Evil Genius.

Thankfully, that one's out of EA's hands.

FOUR HOURS PER TILE? That's... that's a thing, all right. Dammit, EA, I keep trying to defend you and you were doing so well for a while! ;___;

I've still got DK2 installed so who cares?
That War for the Overworld looks pretty cool though.

So do I but the narrator's voice and many of the sounds keep cutting out for some reason in my version(GOG). I really wish there was a 100% guaranteed fix for that, it's just not as fun without them.

Damn you're lucky, I constantly have to alt tab out and back in to the game to get the sound back.

Such is the issues with the design of the games. They were designed for Win 9x so anything more advanced is a crapshoot at best. GoG's version is the most stable considering any other attempts I've tried have crashes at the best of times.
