That War for the Overworld looks pretty cool though.
So do I but the narrator's voice and many of the sounds keep cutting out for some reason in my version(GOG). I really wish there was a 100% guaranteed fix for that, it's just not as fun without them.
I got mine from GOG and have 0 issues man.
Damn you're lucky, I constantly have to alt tab out and back in to the game to get the sound back.
If you bought it quite a while ago, you might try checking GOG.com again for a patch. I seem to remember a lot of crashes and other problems with the GOG.com version of that game, resulting in many complaints. I think they eventually managed to improve the state of the game with an update. From the website:

Wow. That's...
I have to hand it to EA. Every time I think they can't do any worse in design, they find a way.

Gather 'round everyone to the town square. To witness the necrophiliac wonder on display!
EA not only dug up Dungeon Keeper's corpse, but strung it up and then raped it with some of the worst Freemium fuckery I've ever seen.

4 hours to dig a regular squares?
(interpolated as 40 hours of time deliberately wasted BY DESIGN?)

I'm sorry. That's just fucking bonkers. It looks like Dungeon Keeper, but deliberately slowed down to well under 1/1000th of the original time scale.

And what's that? 3 quid for maybe 10 tiles of progress?

I can buy entire games on sale for that amount...no scratch that; I can snag Humble Bundles with several legitimate games for that amount, at similar or better production values.

What's really sad about this is that it's all too likely that the business experts were in charge of the creative or design roles. Which is pretty much EA's business model in itself.

"Ha, this person has been studying video game design they're whole life? Well, I'm looking through their regime, and.. well, none of these games have ever had an energy meter, sooo...."

I give up. I give up on the gaming world.. I... I'm giving up on gaming!

[sub][sub][sub]at least until I'm done with Dark Souls. And Wakfu. And Silent Hill 4. And Tearaway. Fuck it.[/sub][/sub][/sub]

Such is the issues with the design of the games. They were designed for Win 9x so anything more advanced is a crapshoot at best. GoG's version is the most stable considering any other attempts I've tried have crashes at the best of times.
As I recall, the sound issues were mainly from implementing some kind of advanced(for the time) tech on sound cards back when computer sound quality was rough.

My version is 2.0.0.2 according to the installer, which seems to be as up to date as GOG has. I think the game just doesn't like my sound card.

Thanks for the help anyway.

I only have a passing knowledge of the Dungeon Keeper fans apparently like, and this is an abomination that flies in the face of even my vague understanding. I knew from the animation on that fucking orc or whatever what it was going to be. It was that obvious.

I mean I think it's been universally accepted that every Dungeon Keeper-esque game released after the second one is awful. Not awful 'compared to the old games' or something similar. Just awful.

Plus since the brand is owned by EA this comes as no surprise.
No, I found Evil Genius very very good.

Makes me glad that I bought DK 1 & 2 on GoG the other day so I can experience the real games. Reminds me of how crushed I was to learn that Evil Genius 2 was a Facebook game instead of a real game.

I can already hear the history professors...

"And you will notice, class, that the early 2010s saw the rise of monetization in video games, usually in the form of giving back time to the player in exchange for currency. Though it began on games that were unknown outside of social networking sites, mainstream corporate publishers quickly adapted this "take the money and run" approach to maximizing profits while minimizing effort. Of course, such abuse of the consumer base could not endure and led to the collapse of most corporate publishers several years later..."

EA, keep speeding towards the crash. You can do it before 2020, I'm sure of it.

Nonono, you're forgetting something! This is for the naive young parents who keep their credit card info on their tablet or haven't bothered to figure out how to enable App Store restrictions!

EA's not targeting you, the core gamers and lovers of the DK franchise, it's looking for the four year-olds with an unwitting access to the parental unit's credit card!

Sarcasm aside, this is despicable. I'll be right over there, with my Windows XP/7 dual boot and my perfectly serviceable Dungeon Keeper 2 copy...

Thought this was going to be about War for the Overworld. You know, the one that's actually being made by the guys who made Dungeon Keeper. Why would I be disappointed about some other game called Dungeon Keeper that isn't even related to the old series? Especially when there's a spiritual successor on the horizon?

Why don't they sell real games on the mobile platform? Must everything be freemium? or what what ever?

Wonderful, after getting conned into BF4, this is just another reminder of why not buying anything EA poops out is the best course of action.

And as usual, my thoughts needed a bit of expansion. This is the fault of consumers who put up with shitty money-grubbing mechanics like this for years. This isn't EA directly. As I said here. http://thegamingdaily.com/2014/02/01/a-new-dungeon-keeper-has-been-announced/

Forgot how to hyperlink, but anyway, there have been hundreds of games with this "Energy bar" mechanic. If most of these were not successful in making cash off gamers, EA would not have implemented this design mechanic into the new Dungeon Keepers. Therefore, Consumers: stop being idiots, if there's no money in being horrible, THEN GAME DESIGNERS WILL NOT BE HORRIBLE.

Fixing the mobile game industry won't be quick, but it's an easy fix. Don't buy in app purchases that are there simply because the publisher wanted more cash.

Hey, WFTO dev here.

Just want to clarify that we don't actually have any of the original DK development with us (unless you count Richard Ridings). We have however been in contact with and endorsed by several members of the old team, including [a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsRRzr0eBKc"]Peter Molyneux[/a] and David Amor, who are both old friends of my dad (I come from something of a game development family, if such a thing exists :) ). You can find a few more quotes from DK devs on our [a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/subterraneangames/war-for-the-overworld"]Kickstarter page[/a].

And on that note, let me know if you guys have any further questions about the game.

Edit: fixed the links

Just ONE question; how's the production coming along? Is WFTO gonna be ready for release during the first half of 2014?

Probably, but our stance is pretty much that we aren't pushing the final release until we think it's ready. We are going to continue patching up until (and after) that point though.

So the good news? I guess Dungeon Keeper isn't completely lost in EA's ever growing graveyard of once fantastic franchises and developers (you will be forever missed, Westwood)

Now for the bad news; it's a mobile game, It's free to play, and it has play limits a la Clash of Clans (it is basically a Clash of Clans ripoff by the looks of it). And it doesn't even remotely look like the classic DK games. Photographic evidence ahoy!:

Now I've grown quite desensitized to EA's dick moves, but this? I freaking hope they win a golden poo award every year until they finally close their doors, resurrecting a much loved franchise only to horribly abuse it like this should be illegal.

Thoughts on this guys? Anyone got a chance to try it yet?
Fuck you EA. How many series, how many of our cherished childhood memories must you frankenstein back to life like this?

There's only one way to summarize this... travesty:
