If you don't NEED the 125 dollars forget about it. If you've ever seen A Bronx Tale, you'll understand. Fuck him. $125? Then you got that piece of shit out of your life for real cheap.

Or, if you're bigger than him, call his bluff and beat his ass when he gets aggressive. Then take his wallet and get at least some of your money back.

tell everyone you know about the debt, make posters of "WANTED" his pic "For Owning $125"

or... well...you already stated you dont care about him or the money, so you just spend $125 to get rid of a nuisance of a guy.

As someone who has gone through this very problem, don't relent. Keep the pressure up. If you get beat up, it just strengthens your argument because then you can go to the authorities and get your money that way. He can't hold it back forever.

Don't go onto Facebook or online however. All that does is distance yourself from him and make him feel like your desperate. Confront him in real life as often as you can until he relents and pays, his parents force him to pay or he punches you and you get the cops to make him pay (with interest).

Then never talk to the dude again. Ever.

Pretty sure it's illegal to threaten someone with violence. You could report him to the police. Other than that, you could do what others have suggested, and tell everyone he knows that he owes you money. No matter the outcome, his credibility will be destroyed if he doesn't pay you back.

I don't know really, seeing as I don't know you, or him, I can't give you any reliable advice. I don't lend money to other people, and if I ever did, I'd have them sign a legal binding contract.

(thanks RAKtheUdead for showing me the new forum)

It's embarrassing and futile to discuss personal problems over the internet, so...
So for a while I've been lending money to a guy (a friend, and I use that word tentatively) I met at college. We get along enough, but he's yet to pay me back, and it's been more than a month. He owes me, roughly, $125 but I don't see him paying it back. He either won't answer my texts, busy, or "out of money". He said he was gonna pay me back since he was able to go to the ATM the other day but he never did, and refused to meet with me even though we were on the same bus (he was on the phone with his girlfriend).

The question is, should I just let it go or try and get what's mine?

It's really hard for me because after realizing he's been using me for the semester I'd much prefer revenge than money. But since I'm not eager to spend life behind bars, I'll settle for money. I am a proud person, I admit it. Knowing that he manipulated me is more insulting, and I'd give him another $125 just to never see him again, the money doesn't matter.
Only recently when I explained the situation to his roommate (which I felt obligated, because I'd been knocking on his door for a few days now looking for my friend that wasn't there) did he call me back. He threatened to beat the shit out of me if I told anyone else about how much money he owes me.
I don't care about getting beat up, we've already been in a few fights (although drunk at the time). But the idea of him trying to use intimidation to shut me up even further just adds insult to injury.

TL;DR:
A douchebag won't pay me back my $125, to fight or flight?
By threating you he committed a crime. Tell the police, they will ask if anyone else witness it (my guess is no) and say they can not do anything about it, but there will be a recored if he tries anything. If I were you I would recored all conversations with this person. Also tell everyone about this, that way if he tries anything, everyone will know who did it.

Some universities have student/faculty run courts like things, they have no real authority but it would bug him a bit and he may eventually give you some of your money eventually.

Final piece of advice is too be careful. I do not know the person but if he does start getting in your face back down. Never meet with him alone, aways have a witness that is good for court (not a girlfriend or family member, if possible)

Small claims court! [http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/small-claims-court/] Seriously! I'm not sure if you can get him for breach of contract or not for the money, but if he threatened to beat your ass, you can probably duplicate the circumstances and hit him up in court for assault [http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/assault]. Even better if you can convict him with battery [http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/battery]!

I've had similar situations. Once, two different friends borrowed $50 for different things. A couple months went by and I started to get annoyed because they only owed me $50. And they had jobs. It was the principle more than anything. Eventually, I just started saying, in front of everyone, "Wow, IF I was charging you guys interest, you'd each owe me like $200 on the $50 you borrowed." After doing this for a few weeks, I was paid back in full.
