I was interested in Torchlight, until a buddy pointed out that it's just a ripoff of a casual rpg game, Fate. Like down to having a cat or dog that you can feed fish to turn it into something better and send back to town to sell items since it has its own inventory. Granted, Torchlight has three characters and probably a better randomization of items, but it also has only one dungeon in a single town that's always randomized. To me, this doesn't speak well for Runic Games.

It's not a ripoff if it is made by some of the same developers who worked on Fate (Lead developer on Fate founded Runic games). It is a refinement of an older game play system and theme.

Fate? No mate, have you ever heard of Diablo? That's what it takes after.

It's short. It's a shameless ripoff of Diablo.

But it is still incredibly fun.

Diablo didn't have a pet that could sell items and eat fish to turn into something, EXACTLY like Fate does. Its nice to see that the developers were pretty much the same though.

Torchlight takes some elements from Fate (and significantly improves them), but at the core it's a Diablo 1 clone.

It is a bit of a casual game though, considering that it's really easy. But as long as you turn the difficulty up it's a great game.
