While this statement is very true, I think we can make an assertion as to what kind of politician he is going to be. So far, he has done 3 things that I personally consider important, The Bailouts, Yucca Mountain, and Guitmo bay. Lets see what each of these Obama supported actions say about him.Flour said:He's a politician.
I'll answer this question properly in two years, when we've seen what kind of politician he really is.
The Bailouts - He doesn't understand how to fix the economy...at all. The first bailout he issued had no restrictions on how the money given to bankrupt countries was supposed to be spent. This is essentially giving money to people who have proven they cannot handle having it. This isn't to say I can blame Obama for everything that occurred with the Bailouts(congress has done a lot of bullshit too), but he has most certainly endorsed it, which says something about his judgment skills and economic knowledge.
Yucca Mountain - What he lacks in Economic knowledge he seems to make up for in common sense, something that hasn't been seen in the white house in a long...long time. Stopping the dumping of nuclear waste in a technically active volcano shows at least a wind of change. It should also help the people that live at the base of the mountain to sleep safely at night. So at this point we can say he knows nothing about the economy, but is a people person with some common sense.
Guitmo Bay - Closing Guitmo is perfect for our international image...but it isn't exactly practical. We house a lot of suspected terrorists there because they are off of US soil. It allows us to torture how we see fit. Get rid of it, and we get rid of the first image problem we have(That of being hypocrites). However, these suspected terrorists have to be housed SOMEWHERE. So we have to put them in regular prisons. Potentially dangerous and makes citizens uneasy. Kind of contradicts the people person image, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
So, he seems concerned with our image and common sense. When you consider that his cabnit is filled with mainly wallstreet specialists, I think he can serve to be a good foil to the bush administration and get us back to a good state with our nations image...however, stabilizing our economy...probably not. Time will tell.
(this was rambling, if any of it doesn't make sense...well I'm sure you'll let me know.)
