i keep seeing videos about this and reading news, but so far all i know is that its a sandboxy fps game that's got racing elements.

mum seems to be the word when it comes to the details, though, and i want to know what EXACTLY this thing is.

i want to know what it's like, what i'm going to be doing, if there's going to be character custimization, what the character is, etc.

the details i WANT to know are hard to come by.

It's an emotion you get when you're in brooklyn, just kidding.
On a serious note:
I'm not quite sure what rage is yet from what I've heard it seems kind of like Borderlands and it's made by the creators of Quake. The trailers don't give much info though.

They did a rather long game-play trailer this week.

It looks like a VERY polished sand-box shooter. Not innovative or anything, but it still looks fantastic, imo.

Just what I was thinking. This video got me interested, but I'm already getting Gears 3 in September. Perhaps I'll keep on the lookout to see if it's worth buying.

This is Rage:

Oh wait, you meant the game.

Its an open-world shooter developed by ID. They're first new IP in a long-ass time, and it isn't a corridor shooter. Well, there will be plenty of shooting in corridors, but it won't be the focus.

Not sure about character customization, but you can buy a go-kart like thing and pimp the hell out of that, not to mention plenty of other toys you can play with like a bladed boomerang, spider-turrets, lots of guns, and others.

I've had the same question for a long time now. I kept up with E3 hardcore last year and never heard of it until they announced awards for it (published on GameTrailers), and Rage won almost every friggin' category it was in. It looked like another run-of-the-mill shooter with nothing but gray and brown colours. And yet suddenly it was this big thing that NO ONE knew about.

As they trickle-out trailers and stuff on this site it's becoming obvious that it's literally Fallout 3 with driving parts and with a better engine that doesn't make it look horrible at every turn.

And with shooting that isn't ass. And not an RPG, from the looks of it either.

Either way...I want it after the new trailer. >_>

Fallout 3 had driving?

Uncontrollable anger?

A word internet nerds overuse in a narrow context?

One of the first, and only good, rock/hip-hop hybrid bands?

Oh, I see...sorry

Ok this is starting to look more interesting now, the first trailer I saw gave the impression of a generic shooter with super graphics as the only real reason to get it. But I need to see more to convince me its worth my money.

It's id. Once they made Quake the innovation of their games just kinda stopped.

It's not all grey. I mean sure, it's based in a rather desolate land, but it's the most beautiful desolate land ever rendered in a console game.

Pay close attention to the texturing. Not only is it not generic tiled textures, or copy pasted rocks, but it maintains its detailing when looking at it up close.

I've been following RAGE since its early development videos showcasing what the engine can do.

To put it succinctly, it changes the way textures work in games. In standard games, the textures are stored in separate files, either bitmaps or another format. These textures take a lot of memory.

id's Tech 5 engine puts many textures onto a single 128,000 * 128,000 (up to) texture. This method saves on precious memory space. Carmack also used some special code trickery to allow for an extremely efficient way of running a great deal of texture detail into a small amount of video memory.

No, hence why I said "...it's literally Fallout 3 with driving parts...", implying that it is similar to Fallout 3 except it also has driving parts.

Yeah, I kinda misread your post :)

The art style is derivative of fallout, though it looks a lot more organic.
