It is a preference.
People have different wants and needs, so no one solution is "best" for everyone. No one should have to "justify" console to you for it to satisfy them. At the same time, you can live with the knowledge that other people prefer console, and still be satisfied with PC.
For me, there are tons of reasons why I play some games on console, and tons of other reasons why I play some games on PC. There are even several reasons why I play some games on mobile; and a very specific set of reasons why I play one or two games in a browser. It's just a case-by-case situation that works well for me, and I couldn't care less what works for you.

Well, technically you could just as well use a large tv as a computer monitor and play PC games that support the use of a controller.. I don't know anyone who actually bothers to do this, but it certainly rules out relaxing on a sofa being an impossibility.Aerosteam 1908 said:

Also cost. These days I'm rolling with a 3 year old laptop only, which ran everything just fine in it's day, and usually still can, but not to the point where new high end games can be run unquestionable, or at the least fiddling with settings to drop graphics and the like. My console on the other hand, is much older, was far cheaper, and can absolutely run everything that comes out for it to this day.
Overall, I definitely play games more on my PC, but the console certainly has it's place.

I hate the whole PC vs Console argument. Anyone involved in one can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that it's personal preference.

I like consoles for the simplicity, Xbox live, and ability to use my couch.
I like my PC for internet, steam, and mods.
One is not better over the other. And NO the graphics argument is not legitimate as an excuse in my opinion.

Well, I prefer consoles for a number of reasons. Firstly, when I buy a game for my PS3, I know that, except for a few notable exceptions, it will run on my console. That's a massive weight off of my mind.
Secondly, it can't get viruses or become infected with malware.
Thirdly, I like to sit on my couch and relax when playing a video game. For some reason, I can't seem to relax when using a computer, probably because I use it so much for uni work and the like, and it's hard to sit at my desk and relax.
Fourthly, I like to invite friends over and play local multiplayer with them. Playing online is fine, but you can't beat the feeling of sitting down with some good friends for a gaming session. If I wanted to do that with a computer, we'd both need copies of the game, and both have to move our computers into the same room.
Fifthly, when you buy games for PC, even if you buy a retail version, they're often linked to Steam or some other DRM. I recently went away for the weekend to a place with no wireless internet, wanted to relax and have a nice game of Civ V, but was unable to, because I'd forgotten to configure Steam for offline. A game which I bought in a store and never play online was therefore inaccessible to me, and I never have that problem with console games.
Sixth, and I know this will probably be unpopular, is motion control. People can hate it all they want, but I don't think I've ever had as much fun while gaming as when I've had some spirited matches of Archery or Table Tennis with my friends in Sports Champions, and Killzone 3 and Resistance 3 were a lot of fun with motion controls too.
Finally, there are the exclusives. I can only speak for the PS3 about this, but some of the best moments I've had in gaming have come from exclusives. LittleBigPlanet, InFamous, Uncharted, Demon's Souls, Resistance, Killzone, Motorstorm...they're amazing games, and I couldn't have any of them on a PC. Additionally, Catherine, Red Dead Redemption, and El Shaddai, while not being PS3 exclusives, are console exclusives, and are examples of other amazing games I'd miss out on if I had a PC.
So those are the reasons I prefer console to PC

The hardware is relatively cheap compared to a decent PC nowadays.
Games are always compatible with consoles; no specific GFX cards, or processors required to play a specific game.
This is just me, but a PS3 controller is more comfortable than mouse and keyboard, the very few games I have on my laptop don't rely on my reflexes, since I'm not comfortable using mouse and keyboard.
If a console ever acts up, you get it checked out and replace it. A PC is far more of a pain if it fucks up.

The controller, honestly I've become quite the PC gamer since I lost my t.v set in a move and my xbox broke like a million years ago. But I hate the keyboard and mouse set up, its just not comfortable and it takes a bit of tweaking to get a good set up. Though that can easily fix by using a ps3 controller or xbox controller on the PC.
Convenience mainly. It's easy to go out and buy a console and some games and set it up in a few hours.
But if you don't know a lot about PC's to go out and buy or make a PC takes time and effort.
I believe the reward for putting that time and effort in really pays off though.
