I got bored at pro skater 3, but then Underground added a (imo, good) narrative to it and Underground 2 was pretty good fun despite having Bam Margera in it. My favourite was probably American Wasteland.

Things got sucky around Project 8 and I gave up half way through Proving Ground. After AW, these two felt like a step in the wrong direction.

I like madcap wacky hijinks dammit!

2 and 3 were some of the best times I had with a single player experience EVER.

Then it went downhill IMO.

but i think since i've played one of them i think i've played all of them
Very much this ^^ If you've played any TH game after 2 you've pretty much played them all.

I played them all through american wasteland; at which point the series' attempt to be mtv's jackass was getting obnoxious and they ran out of new skating tricks to shoehorn in. It's a shame, too, as I really loved the game and over-the-top the skating could be. On a side note I could never get into skate with all the stick flicking.

Got boring after the 2nd one for me. 'If the record ain't broke, don't fix it' an all that. Didn't like no 3 for the unremarkable levels and stupid people they put in some of the levels.

I think I played an underground one and they had some sort of stupid RPG thing going, where you spent half the time talking to people?!

I guess overall though they got Tomb Raider syndrome. One release pretty much every year. Nintendo get away with it. By releasing a sequel every 4 - 5 years.

In my opinion, the series stopped being good or fun after American Wasteland, although even then it was starting to feel a wee bit stale. I think maybe the last great one was either Pro Skater 3 or 4. Regardless, after American Wasteland the games were rubbish.

Not so much sure it got bad as it got stale, but I cant really say I haven't played much of the later games.

The last one I played was T.H.U.G. 2 and I loved it to be honest. I never played Wasteland, Ride or, Shred so I have no experience with those but the original 4 and the two Underground were all games I absolutely loved. I can't wait for the HD re-releases of 1 and 2 to be honest but I wanna wait for a price announcement before I make a buying decision since I can grab the original 4 used for about the price of a pizza and, still have the first T.H.U.G. somewhere.

You are missing the point completely. Tony Hawk has never ever been a "realistic depiction of skateing" its the Saints Row of skateboarding games. Thats what made it fun. No one wants to just "chill and skate as if it were real" the people who would do that would simply go out and skateboard. EA's Skate is a boring mindnumbing mess of a game.
Nah man, it is because that was the only skating game. I didn't know of a different skate boarding game that was even slightly realistic, so Tony Hawk it was. Now there is Skate, and it is the superior. Soooo yeah.
Yes, Huzzah! lets all present a completely unfounded bias completely lacking any supporting affirmation. Heaven forbid that Tony Hawk was actually fun ya wonky pineapple.

Probably American Wasteland. I wasn't really the biggest fan of that game. The addition of bikes just seemed desperate.

tony hawk 4 was the last one i played. i thought it was pretty good and i liked how you could just skateboard around as much as you want, if you didnt feel like doing missions. i heard tony hawk underground was decent too, but kinda easy

the last tony hawk game i remember being fun was project 8 for the psp. it played, to me, like an older one and had a decent soundtrack. BUT it was preceded by a bunch of bad games. *cough*DOWNHILL JAM!*cough*

tony hawk games stopped being REPEATEDLY fun after Underground 2.

to me the last good one was 4,after that the series declined since stopped really improving the mechanics of the game and just started adding gimicks. Underground introduced walking but it didn't really add any serious depth to the core skating experience and it let to pointless add-ons like driving and such. It's also here that the series tried to add flavor by having a storyline (and a boring one at that)that was filled with supposed "skater' attitude, lingo etc. In Thug 2 they ramped this up to eleven(or just practically made it jackass with skateboards) but even then the games had an a certain charm to then. In this generation of consoles and they took that out and it looked like they were gonna focus on the series, but even then just did nothing but kept adding pointless additions to the series, making it lack charm and innovation. Couple that with what seemed decreasing amount of effort into series (anyone who has played proving grounds can see that point, what with so much errors in collision detection and other glitches that it seemed the people at neversoft didn't really care anymore) made it easy to get dethroned by skate which actually brought some innovation to the genre.

4 was pants-on-head retarded. It became a "funny" game for college fratboys to play. 2 was my alltime favorite :)

I will never forget starting up TH: Pro Skater 3 when i was a little kid, and seeing that first level, foundry i think it was. My jaw dropped at the possibilities! Then, early last year, i bust it out again and have just as much fun as when i was a kid!

Logged so many hours on 3 and 4 but 3 was where I really learned how to play it properly since i had played 4 before 3 and used cheats in it all the time. 3's time limit and my lacks of cheats for it ensured i can dominate mot tony hawk games these days.

1-4 were brilliant, underground and American wasteland were decent and underground 2 wasn't bad.
