So, when will Ps3/360 NOT be called Next-gen?

Which should be rolling around sometime soon. The first of this generation was the DS released in 2004, four years ago. Of course they're STILL flying off shelves over the holidays, so Nintendo doesn't need to put out the DS' successor quite yet.

What I've never been able to understand is how Nintendo's SP and DS appear to sell more units than actual games for the things.

Maybe they'll drop the moniker once the PS3 starts making more money than the PS2.

And I think the PSP can do some pretty awesome things. Granted, most of it is stuff that Sony hadn't intended, but really I don't care what they want anymore because they're still power-drunk from the success of the PS2. If you don't believe me, give a call to their customer service section and see how sunshiney and pleasant they are.

Every time a new load of consoles come out they are called next-gen, christ I can remember when the Xbox came out and everyone heralded it as the "next generation" of console and lo and behold when xbox 360 came out what did they say? Oh its the next generation. Hardly original.

It is because they are so small that when you cant pass a certain point you throw it across the room in disgust and thus you are required to buy another one in order to finish the game. It is an ingenious idea

Well before they're not next gen you should get the most you can out of your xbox 360's and ps3's while you can and you can by getting mod's (such as intercoolers) and games for free by doing free surveys and getting points for them and when you have enough you can get loads of free przes such as games xbox live gold cards and even the xbox 360 and ps3 consoles themselves (if you are interested click the picture below):

I agree that it's the tag for this generation. Everything looks so "real" and people buy into eye candy more than deep gameplay at least 50% of the time so the fact that everything has a physics engine now and can simulate water realistically so who cares if the entire game is about, lets say, jumping around rooftops; It will still win collision detection awards.

Gameplay is for the few games that have the math down and aren't testing waters and trying to do something new and original like "make the biggest world evar!!1" or "Customize the color of the grassez!!!" or whatever other crap no one else has ever done. /end rant

probably been said but, when all the previous consoles stop having games made for them. GTA4 is next gen only (i think?) so that's a start.

They'll stop being called next-gen when we have a better word for saying "Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Wii."

Until then, next-gen wins for having fewer syllables.
