I won't be buying either of them. That's only because I'm broke and what little money I get is going to Star Ocean: The Last Hope. I have ZERO PS3 RPGs and 2 FPS already so I need some balance here. (plus I just love the star ocean games)

I have no interest in getting either game. The last fps games I played all the way through were Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. All the most recent first person shooters just don't interest me, but I do have raised expectations for Bioshock Infinite now.

I've already got Battlefield, and I have MW3 on pre-order.
Being tired of the typical modern FPS is a perfectly good reason not to buy them. I'm not tired of them yet.

Anyway, I'd love to see a FPS that completely shatters the fourth wall, and leaves it that way. It would be the sort of over-the-top nonstop shootybangfest that Bulletstorm was trying to be, and smug about it, too. There'd be a gritty announcer narrating the entire event, and nothing would be taken seriously.

"Alright, so you just killed a bunch of bad guys. Whatever. RANDOM QUICK TIME EVENT! Just kidding, that would suck. Next level: more bad guys! I LIED, NOW WRESTLE THIS LION!"
My hopes for the new Serious Sam.

I'm still a bit on the fence wether I should purchase BF3 or MW3 and here's why.

BF3 has good graphics and great multiplayer, but I've never played a DICE game before and also the Origin "trojan" pisses me to a point where I don't want EA snooping around in my computer.

MW3 on the other hand is different and familliar.Looks like MW2 with extra polish/perks and features, but all in all the same game.I have bought MW2 and Black Ops,but haven't played them more than a couple of months before getting bored of leveling prestige to a higher level(currently on third).

OT now: I might end up not buying any of them.I'm playing APB Beta which eats quite a lot of my time.

What I would like in the future of FPS's is to stop competing with each other and bring to the table choices of exploring different paths that lead to the objective, not keep you boxed inside the designated area. This might matter only in single player however.

Yeah I'm not buying either. Of course, if I just happened to get BF3 for my birthday or Christmas in the coming months, I wouldn't be unhappy, but I'm not going out of my way to buy them, as I've already got my money saved for Skyrim, SR3, GTA4, etc.

I dislike your strawman that implies people only buy popular games due to peer pressure. Have you ever considered those games are popular for a reason?
That's not a strawman.
Sure buddy.

Not right away, if I do. I am tired of the modern shooters where you aim down ironsights to aim worth shit and die instantly as soon as someone points a gun at you. It's not longer fun.

I've decided I won't be buying BF3 or MW3 either. I enjoy war shooters, but in their current format... eugh. Everything is so repetitive, so copy and paste generic that I really don't see the point in playing. The whole paradigm of "realistic" military shooters just doesn't appeal anymore, and I don't take kindly to being manipulated by a game's reward system which actively deludes people into thinking they're awesome when they're actually mediocre. Freaking autoaim and killstreaks. Not to mention regenerating health isn't even realistic which undermines the point of marketing "realism". (MW3 is the more guilty one here, but BF3 has alot of similar faults)

I don't want something so much realistic, as something believable and actually requiring effort on the part of the player. Get rid of most perks, make aiming harder, and set some requirements for rewards which aren't linked to points.

Oh God I'm sounding like a typical purist, but I don't want to come off as that way. I just think that the designers of these games need to set the bar higher, and players need to try harder rather than just expecting instant gratification.

The Fps really appeals to be but far more in a cartoony way like the timespiltters game, I generally dislike realism in games because no matter how real it gets your still bashing in buttons to a lump of plastic. Buying neither.

I won't be buying it, despite a fair number of friends trying to get me to. I've heard great things about the game, but once the initial excitement of the game wears off and my friends stop playing as much, I'd probably just go back to Halo.

Besides, I play Halo when I need a break from Deus Ex: HR and Batman: Arkham City and have an urge to throw a sticky grenade at someone's head.

"simply refuses to bow to social pressure." That's and odd thing to say, maybe there's those who just want the game because it looks nice? It's not always because the game was marketed

I'm not getting Battlefield 3 just yet because I don't have the cash at the moment but I'd love to play it, looks like a lot of fun. Modern Warfare? No I'm okay with playing World at War and not newer games since they don't know a thing about pacing.

Modern warfare 3 doesnt interest me at all. I tried mw2 and gagged throughout the single player campaign. The multiplayer was kind of boring (personal opinion).

BF3, I would probably buy, if it didn't come hooked up to origin. Thats a deal breaker. Never-mind that it sounded like spyware (not sure if they fixed their eula yet), I just don't want yet more crappy websites to remember login/passwords for.

Whelp, count me in, I'm gonna pass on both of them.

As for the "further discussion value" bit: I'd like to see more influences from the TimeSplitters series in present day shooters. What do I mean by that? Well...

+ a decent solo campagne with both humor AND a good story.
+ extracurricular missions in the form of Arcade and Challenge modes.
+ an expansive collection of weaponry that does NOT limit itself to "6 almost identical assault rifles with minor stat differences". An AK-47 and an M-16 does NOT offer enough variation. Where are the tommy guns? The electrotools? The bricks?
+ Map maker.
+ Mission maker.
+ Tons of characters that actually look different and have (optional) weaknesses and strengths.
+ Pick up and play multiplayer with tons of adjustable settings and gameplay modes.

Aaaand that's pretty much it.

Coincidentally, Final Fantasy Type-0 rules :D.
You what? When did that come out? Maybe I should take a look at where you're from before I post this but screw it, I'm excited for that game!

OT: Screw MW3 and BF3, I'm gonna be buying TESV and I'm gonna love every second of it, absolutely no stress or rage at all and I can chill out, relax, have fun, do everything Skyrim is all about

If somebody wants to let me borrow either, I'll play them. I just don't want to pay 60 bucks for a 5 hour campaign. If I haven't had the time to play Rage, then I sure as hell can't find the time to play MW3.

A combination of buying my first lot of Magic the Gathering cards and pre-ordering Skyrim has bankrupt me so even if I did want to I couldn't buy shit. Although I might buy MW3 on sale in a year or something just for a quick fest now and then, fairly solid but just nothing that drags me back in any more.

I'm not going to buy it myself, but from what I have understood a friend of mine will get it for me since she "owes"[footnote]Her words, not mine.[/footnote] me a game.
