Been playing keyboard + mouse, it's fine once you rebind all the keys to something sensible,
the biggest problem I have with it, is that double mouse-click is considered a separate thing even if it's not bound to anything, so if you're spamming clicking to attack, your character will just stand still and not do anything.

I've popped in 90 hours using the keyboard and mouse and it has been mostly fine for me. All you really need is to download the mod that changes the interface icons to K+M equivalents and it's all good. About the only problem I've had control-wise is jumping onto platforms, which is a pain. Other than that, it has been pretty damn smooth.

It's pretty epic. been pretty smooth overall, been playing with the 360 controller, and yeah, it's pretty much a decent port of an excellent game. just wish they fixed up the first game now.

Thanks for all the input guys I appreciate it. I bought the game and have put about 3 hours in so far. I just killed the Last Giant and have found my way to the Pursuer but it's Mother's Day so no more souls for now. It runs perfectly for me as well and my only gripe is a small deadzone on my 360 controller's left stick. Movement is a little clunky but I'm getting used to it. Next time I play I'm going to down the Pursuer. If only he'd stop slicing up those ballistas so I could shoot his fat face.

Edit: I shot him in his fat face. Then I made the Ruin Sentinels my bitches.

What up Escapist crew. I wanted to know if many of you Dark Souls fans are playing on the PC. I've been holding off on buying it because it's riddled with so many issues, from the keyboard and mouse controls, the click delay, crashes, controller stick deadzones, etc. Anyway, the Steam forum threads about problems with the game have around 3000 posts each, but I know this is a vocal minority. I'm surprised there hasn't been any threads about this on here though considering the number of Souls fans that frequent this site.

So really what I want to know is, how many of you are playing DKS II on PC, and would you say it's safe to buy? Are you having any of the problems afflicting a number of people and have you found feasible work arounds? I only ask here because thoughtful comments often get lost on the Steam threads which are full of vitriol and anger right now. Thanks!

TLDR: Do you have Dark Souls II on the PC? Does it work?
Yes I do. Personally, I play with my PS3 controller (only controller I have, besides, I'm used to it from Demon's Souls) and I've nothing to complain about in terms of bugs or such. Well, there was a bug once where the boss slammed me into a wall and I got bugged in it, but a restart sorted that out. That was literally the only glitch/bug I've seen so far. As far as KB/M is concerned, I can't tell as I'm used to the controller, but it seems fine and a friend of mine prefers playing the game that way. So I'm guessing it works.

One big plus from the first game is no more cheaters - or at least, not as far as I can see. Playing the first game on PC, you couldn't PvP anywhere without running into a cheater every couple of matches, not to mention during the leveling process.

In my opinion, if you liked the previous games, buy it. Both previous games are better imo (not by a landslide), but it's still rather good. Some pointless bosses here and there, but it's fun 99% of the time and the difficulty's easily ramped up if you want it to be (there's a covenant that puts you in NG+++ and you can burn items to make the zone harder and respawn mobs/bosses)

I beat the game on PS3 and am now playing it on PC and I think it is by far the best version.
Haven't had any issues whatsoever. It both looks and runs better. Especially with durantes graphics mod.
Playing it with a PS4 controller so don't really know how good KB&M controls are, but I've heard they're better than DS1 at least.

Yup, I've been playing the game for a couple hundred hours now. I haven't got much to say except praise the sun and LOOK AT DAT FRAMERATE!

I've not had any technical issues with it, but the default keyboard layout is complete bollocks. Still better than trying to play DS1 without a gamepad, but it needs some messing about with before it's anything other than a headache. Why the fuck did they put block on M for fucksake? Rarrrgh.

My advice is to rebind block to Shift, and lock-on to Tab.

I've played it a little, but what time I have been using for gaming has gone towards juggling my various MMO interests (I have yet to find a game that has sucked me into a WoW-like obsession, typically I tolerate them by not doing too much of one thing as all of them are pretty mediocre and fail to live up to their potential). Like other responders I have been using an X-box controller attached to my PC.

My big issue with Dark Souls 2 is reactivity even with a controller. To be honest I haven't played much past the very beginning of the game due to how spotty the jumping and such is. To be honest I died more trying to jump that bit in the tutorial than to any of the monsters (and I kept practicing it, and making characters to see if I could do the whole training sequence without dying... I did it eventually, but that jump remained spotty as simple as it should be). Given that the tutorial implies there will be jumping puzzles in this game and such, I'm hoping that when I get around to playing seriously they will have patched in some better reactivity.

Connected to this issue are the two Cyclops/troglodyte things in the same tutorial area, I've seen videos of them being kited using ranged attacks/magic rather easily. Albeit with footage taken from console versions. In trying to do the same thing (which I have experience doing) I haven't even come close to being able to pull it off, the controls just don't react quickly enough. In fiddling with the mouse/keyboard I actually pity anyone who tries to play that way since it seems like it would be unplayable given the needed reaction times.
